Who take the biggest step up this year?

Lonie: Not too sure about him. At best I hope he solidifies his place in the 22 because his skills are a huge asset. However I have doubts about his potential to be a top liner.
Richards: Not much has been said about this but we have pretty poor ruck depth (Richards and Fraser are the only 2 bonafide ruckman on the full list excluding rookies). Richards should pick up where he left off last year. He is a very important player to us this season. It's good to hear that Fanning is going alright in training so if we have a few out he could step up for a few games. I don't really see that Richards should bulk up massively, if you look at M.Clarke he is strong enough to win hitouts but doesn't look massive and Guy looks like he has the same frame as him.
Tex: Eddiesmiths favorite player. I am a big fan of him (legitamately) and I think he should get alot of game time in the backline and get a few big jobs. Should start the grooming for CHB phase now.
Didak: We saw in 04 when he was in the midfield he was very damaging. Give him more time in the midfield next season and he should blossom. It's hard for a young player too look good consistantly in the forward pocket. His creativity and vision, great skills, strong marking, evasiveness should come in handy next year. I think he will take the biggest step up this year.
Davis: IMO too old to categorise as a youngster. I reckon give him more time in the midfield for "bursts" to shake things up. If he has another so so season at forward pocket, it's time to look at him and wonder if we are better off giving his spot to a younger player.
Maxwell: Give him game time and he should be a long term member of the senior 22. He adds versatility to the backline. He is in the Clement mould in that he can cover talls and smalls (as long as their not gorillas) but he is a smaller (and less strong) quicker version of him (perhaps without the pinpoint disposal too). Has a great footy brain.

Hopefully, but I doubt it, Josh Fraser.

Many long-timers here will know that I have never been a fan of Josh since the beginning. Said back then he will never be anything more than a serviceable player. Three years on, I'm sticking to that.

C'mon Josh, please stuff my mouth with humble pie. I would love it.

I think we should put fraser on the market at the end of the year.

With richards and maybe fanning coming on we might be covered for rucking positions in the future.

We might get a high pick or a decent young midfielder in exchange.

Anyone agree.

Yes.

Fraser will begin to play to his enormous potential this year. His career has been held back by being forced to spend too much time in the ruck. With Richards finally arriving as a footballer, Fraser will be freed up to be a more offensive footballer rather than a dinosaur ruckman.

He'll be a champion, no problems

Too early to offload Fraser; got a season to play. Hoping he'll take off up front forward again.

Other great leapers forward? - BShaw, Davidson (second half year), Cole & Johnson around the ball.

Yes, Didak. Currently plays midfield like the forward pocket. Spasmodically brilliant. Saw him versus Hawthorn in midfield rnd 14; 4 goals brilliant (though I think Davis got the umpires' 3 votes rather than Didak on 2); other times midfield efforts seemingly all at sea.

Nagging feeling that this is all there is. Like Daicos in the end best up front. Still this year I guess will tell if there really is another gear.

Didak and Fraser are the keys. Im pretty confident Al will have a very good year on the ball and add a new dimension to us as a goalkicking mid. Jeez his body shape is much sleeker at the moment.
Id be happy for Josh just to play as well as he did at the end of 03, but be a bit more physical and hold a few more overhead marks.

Both these guys have been there a while now and should be coming into their own as guns.

Taz will also be undoubtedly our best player by years end also.

Agree, Fraser, Didak and Taz need to make the next step, especially the first two. Taz just needs to kick more goals (has he ever kicked more than 6 in a game - I can only remember it once!!!)

Of the younger players, Its C Cloke, Walker, Richards and B Shaw that we need to see progress from. Also King. Nobody at Collingwood's a big wrap for him, myself included, but I'd love to see him prove us all wrong. He's got a bit of showbiz about him, he could become a dangerous player to match if he applies himself.

Yeah Taz would occasionally kick 4 goals in 1 game.. then die off in the next, he needs to be consistant this year and kick 5 goals a game with Rocca by his side kicking at least 3 goals a game!.

I think Guy Richards will have a big year & cement himself a the #1 ruckman, freeing Fraser to roam across half forward.Hopefully his bout of osteitis pubis is a thing of the past.Didak will have a big year also & add a new dimension to the centreline.
