Saw this on the North board, and seemed like an interesting topic, so thought I'd give it a go here.

Who do Freo supporters think will "step up" in 2004 and really stamp themselves as a huge part of our team and club?

I reckon there's huge improvement in so many of the young guys, and I apologise if I miss anyone who could do great things next year.

BUT:

I reckon Polak's move forward will be awesome. With him pulling down those pack marks in the forward half, I reckon we'll start kicking some really big scores.

Schammer in the midfield will be terrific, especially now that he's a year older, with a bit of experience and hopefully a few kilos over the summer. He'll get more game time and may be the in-and-under hard nut we need.

Sandilands will get better and better and if he learn to direct his taps down to the waiting Freo boys - watch out.

Roger the Dodger will get noticed, and may crack AA.

All of the above plus Haines, Siegert Brown & Cunners will have every reason to step up a level. Having a full squad should be a good thing as it will increase the pressure for spots in the team. I would like to see more players rotated out of the team this year which should keep everyone fresher and the depth deeper.

I think with our short list in 2003 a lot of players were played sometimes when they should not have been.

Bring it on.

Depending on how he recovers from his knee injury, I think Luke Webster could be the biggest improver if not this season, then definitely the next.

I think Graham Polaks move forward could also benefit Jeff Farmer. I think part of his problem was trying to crumb off Trent Croad who almost always ran under the ball. At least Polak will create a contest for him.

Yeah, The Dealer Browne looks set to go off. He has obviously heard the challenge for a hard in and under type and put his hand up with some urgency in the London game.

He is speedy, doesn't know how to go backwards and hasn't figured out fear yet.

Sure, his disposal is lacking but I reckon that's just because he's going a hundred miles an hour all the time.

There are areas where our improvement will come with a downside - Polly is the obvious one here. Even if he does go to CHF and dominates - which may take a while - his departure means there's a gap in the backline that needs filling.

They'll still be fiddling with the spine. They'll still be experimenting with really quite major things like forward line set-ups.

It's not just a case of curing the clearances and hello flag - there's plenty to do.

The good thing is we have acres of room for improvement and we did all right last season. Lots of teams are going backwards...

I think our biggest improver next year will be Polak, who I believe will stamp himself as one of the league's dominant centre half forwards in just his third season. I also think Schammer, after a weights focused pre-season, will step up to be a consistent contributor, and, as a result, will have more game time in the midfield.

Others who I think may step up to another level if given the faith from the coaching staff include Thornton, Haines (although this is his last chance), Browne and Edgecumbe.

Of all the established players in our side, I think Woods is still capable of further improvement and should spend more ime up the ground with the development of Thornton and Mundy. Furthermore, McPharlin has had two outstanding half seasons with us, despite not having done a full pre-season, so you'd think he's still capable of a fair bit of improvement, particularly with his conditioning and fitness level. Hopefully both Longmuirs will also step up to another level; Justin as a result of having an injury free pre-season and Troy as a result of having increased game time from the coaching staff and an increased amount of pressure to perform. Finally, we'd all like to think Clive is capable of getting back to his best, and if he has the hunger to do so, it may well be a reality. :)

Weve got Dunn, Murphy, Peakes son, The NZ kid and the other bloke. I am expecting huge things from the other bloke and think he will be the one out of this crop to have an impact in their first year. I dont know too much about him, hell I dont even know his name but pretty sure hes the one.

I think that this is a very intersting point, in truth Fremantle have never had CHF like this, Farmer certainly has had to create his own opurtunities since he moved to freo as has medhurst, look forward to Polak bulking up and creating havoc around our forward half.

Young Browne will def step up. I went to "The gospel according to Chris" the other night and he spoke about various things but
Polak will def be going to CHF, with Simmond and J-Lo changing in the fwd line. He was quite confident with our back line. Schammer will play 75% of a game when selected, so Young Browne I would assume would also fit into the 75%. Cookie will probably start playing the role of a defending midfielder

I like the Brownies style, but its going to be hard to get a game each week with the depth that we have

Black and Headland on the wings. This will be the outstanding benefit of our midfield trading.

These guys will kick goals, and we will be unbeatable at Subi again. And win plenty on the road as well, because Black travels well.

In fact, I would like to see Bellie spend a little more time forward this year, in order to prolong his career, and shuffle Farmer and Medhurst out through the flanks more often.

Anyway, Black to go top 3 in the Doig.

I just have a funny gut feeling that Medhurst is the one who's really gonna fire up in 2005. He'll kick about 60 - 70 goals. after Medders I'd say Polak and Des.
