Who will go number 1

Unless Richmond is found guilty of an oversized cap, then its safe to say Brett Delidio is Richmonds best player.

There comes a time every year when the number one draft pick is ordained. It never changes after that. I suspect the recruiting manager of the team with first pick has too much to lose by ignoring the conventional wisdom.

Because if this, it will be Delidio.

The thing is, if Richmond take Deledio, and he turns out to be a dud, and Tambling ends up a Brownlow medallist, at least the recruiting manager can console himself, thinking that he was just one of the millions that though Deledio was unanimously the best pick.

If Richmond take Tambling instead of Deledio, and then Tambling's the dud, and Deledio is the superstar that everyone thought he was a given to become before the draft, then the club has absolutely no choice but to fire the recruiting manager, because not taking the guy who was considered the best player in the country, and then having him turn out to be that good, while you took a punt on a guy generally considered to be a lower quality prospect, then you look like a tool.

Richmond HAVE to take Deledio now, not only for the fact that he will most likely be that good, but also because he's considered to be #1, and there's no excuses when you pick at #1.

Beck (Richmond recruiter) is unlikely to be fired as he's leaving after the draft. The position is disappearing and Miller and co will be looking after it.
Rest assured Richmond will take Deliedo. With KPP need at both Dogs and Hawks we may get Tambling or Griffen as well. We'll take the best Ruckman left with our 3rd pick (12?) and probably take a punt with a few kpp or two that have questions over them with later picks. Miller has probably got a Wayne Carey type line up for our last round pick!
As for Collingwood... more Clokes, Shaws or Gaffers perhpas?

Deledio will be the one. Someone who's been described as "moves a bit like Chis Judd but kicks more goals" has to be worth the #1 pick.

What of Richmond's recruiting history would lead you to believe this? Let's not get ahead of ourselves, Deledio and whoever you get at #4 will both be very good, but I wouldn't go assuming that the rest of the picks will turn out quality. This is still the same club that got Aaron Fiora at #3...

Come on, admit it... You know Richmond wanted Cameron and Travis, Travis especially.

Besides, what was insulting in my post? You feel the need to make comments about my club from what I said? I tried to be civil (before this post that is :p)

Since the beginning of the GM era at Tigerland, I think you could say we've done ok drafting-wise. Picking up Hartigan, Jackson and A. Raines last year all beyond pick 60 was a coup.

We've come a long way since the Lounder/Banik days.

If i'm not mistaken Richmond have done something very similar to that before! A few years back they took Pettifer at #7, and Freo took Pavlich at #8!

If he is leaving then wouldnt it mean it is more likely that he wont give a stuff about it and perhaps might persuade them not to pick delidio? Just a thought, stranger things have happened......and itz richmond we are talking about...
