If you had to put together a list of who would be cut at the end of the season who would be on it?

Let me throw some names at you. Some of these guys maybe looking elsewhere at the end of the year or finishing their careers. Some could even be trade bait.

BANDY Daniel
BOOTSMA Brad
DODD Brad
EASTAUGH Simon
FLETCHER Adrian
GROVER Antoni
KICKETT Dale
KOOPS Steven
METROPOLIS Daniel
MODRA Tony
NORRISH Jason
PRESCOTT Ashley
TOIA Luke
WALKER James
WATERHOUSE Clive

If I had to pick who are not likely to be there next year it would be:

Norrish (retired)
Modra (retired)
Eastough
Metropolis
Toia (only because of his injury)

Two more that haven't made it as yet and may be dropped off with a new coach are Clancy and Butler.

Schell is also an interesting one, who knows what may happen there.

There has been talk in the media that Kickett may not be there next year. I hope thats not the case, I think hes got at least one more good year in him.

well i think u may be wrong about some of those brad bootsma i recon has a few more seasons in him
brad dodd will be back after his knee is better
simon eastaugh is one we need to keep because with modra possibly retiring at the end of this season i think justing will be put up forward more and clem will need help in the ruck so eastaugh is one we need to keep plus he is a good player
fletcher well it all depends on how he feels i think he has another season
kickett well same with him
koops when he gets back from injury should hopefully regain some good form
the only reason toiaa will retire is if his injury stops him playing but i have a neck injury my self and all he needs to do is give his neck time to heel so maybe have one year off

Its tough to cut these guys when you have followed their fortunes for so long and a lot will depend on the new coach and his game plan. My picks would be:

BANDY Daniel
Keep him but be a lot stricter on him, ie beat him back into shape.

BOOTSMA Brad
Will depend on the new coach

DODD Brad
Hate to say it but I think Dodd may be on the brink.

EASTAUGH Simon
Hang onto Simon. He has done just enough to show he is a good backup ruckman. Somewhat dependent on whether Clem gets back into action too.

FLETCHER Adrian
Thanks very much Adrian, you helped the club thru its toughest patch yet and will always be remembered fondly.

GROVER Antoni
Trade bait – depends what we could get for him.

KICKETT Dale
Its up to Dale whether he reckons he has another year in him or not.

KOOPS Steven
Can’t keep himself fit. Let him take his chances elsewhere.

METROPOLIS Daniel
Trade bait – depends what we could get for him.

MODRA Tony
Thanks very much Tony, you helped the club thru its toughest patch yet and will always be remembered fondly.

NORRISH Jason
Not sure about Jason

PRESCOTT Ashley
He’ll should make it into 2002

TOIA Luke
We’ll see how the poor buggers neck goes. One of the few original squad members so I hope he comes good.

WALKER James
Trade bait – depends what we could get for him.

WATERHOUSE Clive
Will stay because he is the only dangerous forward we have.

i think we would take josh carr cause his bro is here and do u know that matt carr is the only player that ever acknowledges the crowd he smiles at us and we know that he hears us which is good
i think chad cornes is a good player and we would consider a trade invloving him and dew case he is good aswell

Come on now ptw, it's not nice to tease. You know full well that Clive would be another Bowen Lockwood - explosive on his day, but too erratic and sadly, INJURY PRONE

ptw? Has sabre hacked into your account or something? :D confused: (joke sabre)

What are you on about?? Thank god your not on the Power board!!
Dew for Waterhouse?? Dew is 22, one of the most exciting players in the league, almost a one of a kind at the moment. Waterhouse is 27/28, injury prone, erratic, inconsistent and has never had his heart fully on the job at any one time. Remember in 95 he did get dropped to the reserves during the year at Port.

Chad Cornes for Waterhouse would be a smarter option. Schofield and Cassisi? :

BIG no no. Cassisi is an amazing prospect. An awesome young wingman that has a huge AFL future. Schofield is one of our better performing players as well.

Josh Carr?
I am thankful you arent on Ports board at all. That would be another unbelivably stupid trade if we did. Carr is the best tagger in the league at the moment with the ability to get 20 touches himself and kick a goal. Trading him would be stupid!!

Swap Josh Carr i'd want Pavlich and Walker or Draftpick.
Swap Dew id expect Pavlich and Black
Swap Cornes...heck you can have Cornes!!
Schofield and Cassisi id expect Pavlich and Brown.

well well well...that go the interest up didn't it.

Clearly I have bigger wraps on Clive than others. If I look at the players I put up....

1. Cornes....at best will develop into a Clive so no risk in trading him

2. Josh Carr.....clearly a great player. I was looking at the structure of the Port team. What we need (still) is another marking forward. Waterhouse is a great mark and, barring injury, kicks 40-50 goals a year. Admitedly these tend to come in 6 or 7 games and not much else in between, but a marking forward option would be more valuable than a running midfielder IMHO. You are right that Pavlich would be better....but if I were running Freo I wouldn't trade Pavlich for a midfielder.

3. Schofield ?? Has played some good games but goes missing a lot as well (much like Clive). Therefore you are swapping an eratic midfielder for an eratic CHF....and we need the eratic CHF more than the midfielder. Cassisi was perhaps a bit OTT so I will take him back.

4. Dew ? If I were in control I would trade Dew this season (perhaps for something a bit more than Clive). I think (and happy to be proved wrong on this Stewie) he played above himself in the first few games this year. The last 6-8 games have been what I feel is his true form. So, its a bit like someone offering you $20,000 for your ED Falcon when you know it is worth $8,000 and everyone else will know it is worth $8,000 next year as well. The real question is where does Dew sit on Port's list. I would rank Port's list as:

Primus
Wanganeen
Tredrea
Stevens
Burgoyne

these guys are either top knotch or clearly will be.
--------------------
then Dew, Francou, Francis, Carr, Kingsley and a few others who are good solid AFL footballers. I doubt any of them will ever be first class.

Now Dew is rated outside as being in the top list at Port, bt I personally do not think so. He is a great player but not one of our best. But if he is percieved as one of our best then that is a good time to trade.

Would a trade him for Waterhouse ?

hmmmmmmm

probably not on reflection....Waterhouse + draft pick maybe as I see them as similar players in terms of output but CW 27 and SD 22 therefore the pick will keep the youth thing going.

Macca....I am glad you are not on the board as well.....the Bar at the Port Club would be run dry !!!! ;) ;)

do use think freo are stupid or what they have done some great drafting since 97 especially last year and there is no way they will let pavlich walker and black go at least not for the next 5 or so years and we are just hoping that browny gets some sense knocked into him and stays besides brown will go back to victoria and so will black i forget where walker is from but
but there is no way use would get both pavlich and walker and a draft pick ur crazy that is way more than wat carr is worth even if he is as good as his bro
and i doubt u would get pavlich and brown for schofield and cassisi whoeva they are pavo and browny are worth way too much but we will have cornes if u don't want him n e more

What all clubs have to face up to is that they must cut their list by six at the end of the season. Also I believe players have to be over 30 to be on the Vets list so if Modra goes do yo have a replacement or does that mean 7 are cut.
Who would be your six to go?

With lists reduced by three next season (bloody stupid IMO) there will be a minimum of 48 club players from this season that could be in the draft (excluding retirements) plus a good crop of youngsters. The draft should have some fair depth in it.
I thought I heard some where that the AFL was looking at keeping the current number of playes on the list next year or extending the player lists.
I think that if the new coach has any nous at all at least 11 will be cut next year I will get back to you on who.Still going through the list.
