On Geelonginfo Brian Cook said that Geelong were preparing to look at other uncontracted or available tall forwards.
the way i see it is that David Haynes, Digby Morrel and Danial Bradshaw are the only uncontracted tall forwards available.
Trent Croad and Ben holland are others that maybe up for trade.
I think that Croad is the best player out of these 5 and that his athleticism would complement our largely un athletic forward line. Having said that he would cost the most in both sallery and trade value.
In my opinion David Haynes would be the best option.I know he is not that tall but he takes a good mark and often played against the best defenders . Both Haynes and Croad are at the age of players we should be looking at.
What does anyone else think?

Perhaps an experienced defender/midfield is also on the cards - I certainly wouldn't touch any of those forwards, with the exception of Croad.

Croad would make a fine pick up for our defence, I reckon.

We just lack that extra tall.

What about Drew Petrie from Nth? He would not be their CHF in preference anymore cause Rawlings is coming.

I for one would go for Trent Croad cause then he would not only proove handy in the forward line th lad could also play defence if need be. VERSATILITY...

I doubt he could be a CHF though - he mainly plays FF from my memory.

Couldnt agree more, we should now try all out to get Bradshaw, if that fails we just make do with what we have, you never know they might surprise in 2004.

Looking at un-contracted players is all well and good but what does it matter. The heffernan rule doesn't come into effect until next year so its open season on anyone. Sure it's easier to lure an uncontracted player but so what. Work harder GFC.

If we can't lure a top line CHF this year well so be it. It's really down to Whitnall and Richo. I don't rate Bradshaw as a top CHF but agreed he would be handy however Bris will want sh*tloads in return and I'm still not sure if he is worth all that. Mid way through this year he could'nt even get a game. Croad would be the perfect verstile tall IMO. He is young and the talent is there. Remember nobody wanted a bar of Fevola last year. Croady's trade value is at rock bottom so it could be an astute buy.

I'm a fan of Morrison from Brisbane. He wants out and the Brisbane fans really rate him. He is young, strong, the right size and most importantly ready for AFL footy. A youngster ready to take the next step. Again look what Bolton has done this year at the swans. If Harley or BG went down Morrison would be vital in defence. Finnin's not ready to play a major role next year and Foster and Girgic are simply not up to it.

Any second stringers that are 25 or over need to be discounted. Fringe players like Morrison or Croad who can still develop I can cop. Players like McKernan, Rocca, Holland, Lade are going no where.

I know I'll raise a bit of a laugh here, but since missing out on Rawlings I think we already have our CHF. Mooney had a pretty good 2002, and if you cast your mind back he was on fire in the first preseason game against Collingwood this year (kicked 3 in 1st quarter?) then knackered his ankle. As has been GFC policy, I don't think his ankle was ever right - I believe he's had surgery since the season ended. He was mercilessly bagged for not chasing, not working hard enough, but I honestly think he was severely limited. We all saw what happened with an injured King, so we know GFC will play blokes who aren't right. It only took about 12 weeks for them to even acknowledge King had an injury.
How old is Mooney? 24 is my guess, still young enough to turn it around. Injury free I reckon he more than capable of filling CHF, and I hope he can, as I love the crash and bash way he plays.

Mooney was on fire in that Wizard Cup game, and once he went down injured, so did our chances of beating the Carring Bush. I remember him kicking a goal from 50 metres out on the boundary, then taking a strong contested mark... looked in awesome form, I agree.

I agree with you two lads, Mooney aint that bad - sure he has white line fever, but he does fit in with Kingsley and Steve Johnson well. Those three could form quite a good forward line.

McCarthy is also there in the mix for sure.
