"Three days before Saturday’s must-win clash with the Crows, they find themselves leaderless, with the preferred candidate unsure if he wants to take the position.
Both Connolly and CEO Cameron Schwab talked to assistant coach Mark Harvey on Tuesday night about taking the reins for the remainder of the season, but the long-time Essendon assistant and premiership hero has deferred a decision on the position".
Not a good look Harvs. You either want a senior coaching position or you don't...

It's very difficult to understand Harvey's position. There's no way Connolly's resignation could have come as a surprise. At the very least he's had weeks to consider what he would do if Connolly did resign.
What else was he planning to do for the rest of the year apart from coaching? Go on an extended fishing trip?

This looks for all the world like someone who's too timid to grab an opportunity to strut his stuff. He doesn't have to commit himself to anything long term. I've heard stories about Harvey dithering about a senior position in the past.
NOt only that but he was the assistant and now the club has turned to him yet he's not sure whether he's prepared to help out!
This is rather pathetic on his part IMO.
