This is a question that has baffled me for years and years... Tasmania has long had the wealth of batting talent to do well, but has never been remotely successful in the short format.

What's worse is that Tassie lost to a side that hadn't won in a year on the weekend!

because their batsmen used to be good, but are crap now, and their bowlers are pie tossers.

Devo, Cox, watson and tubby marsh used to be a great top order... what went wrong?

they had a couple of good seasons with Miller and the other old dude, but they've fallen, and watson will be able to bowl in 2006...

I don't know what the solution is, but they're gone.

!!

The quality of thier opposition is quite good but thier batsmen have really let them down- Cox and DiVenuto should be scoring big knocks each time they go out to bat. Without that, you struggle. Thier bowling is getting better but still needs to prepare.

If Tasmania lose their next couple of games, then Divenuto and Cox would be the most likely ones to get the chop.

Divenuto has been disappointing for a while at this level, he batted poorly last year and has continued on with that form this season. And Cox's time at one-day level may be up.

It's not Christmas yet ;)

We have never really been any good in the one dayers. Our top order batsmen all score too slowly, Cox has a shocking record in the one dayers. Di Venuto is just crap, I can't believe anyone rates him, he is a poverty stricken version of Mark Waugh - very casual looking and throws his wicket away way too easy. One or both should be dropped for the one dayers but the selectors don't have the balls. Surely they are better off giving George Bailey or some other youngster a run.

Our bowling is pretty good, it is the batting that always lets us down. Wright and Griffith are good openers, Greeves is serviceable and Kremerskothen, Marsh, Doherty, and Watson when fit, can make up the remaining 20 overs easy enough.

It's a pity we didn't have this bowling attack going when Cox, Hills et al were firing on all cylinders. We made a shield final with Miller the strike bowler - bowling medium pacers

Cox to go?? Dumb comment, has been our saviour for far too long. We seem to have a wealth of young talent that are good but arent quite good enough. We just lost Jurgenson who was a bit of a gun and have Griffith coming thru who will shock many, fingers crossed. But it his hard to produce a lot of star youngins on such crap pitches that dont help with development at all, hence the continual buying of players.
It is a strong side tho

2 simple reasons behind the failure of Tassie in OD's.

1. Inconsistent batsmen. The top order is classy, experienced and should be scoring freely. Unfortunately DiVenuto has 1 good knock in 10, Cox is showing his age, Watson is not a number 3 and that places too much pressure on Marsh.

2. Lack of a genuine quick. To be honest it is a real pop gun attack. Their best bowler (Wright) is little more than medium fast. Look at the other teams in the comp, and you could see that all have a genuine quick. The other bowlers are also poor quality, I doubt if any would get a game at any other state.

Only for the one dayers. Off the top of my head, in Australia, he averages about 25 with a s/r in the 60's. Pretty average really.
