You ****ing joking? Eddie used to be a good commentator. These days he seems to be more interested in doing his BT impersonation and the quality of his commentary has dropped dramatically. There is nothing no-frills about him. He goes nuts and yells bullshit into the microphone to the point you need to turn off the TV.

BT is hated for 3 reasons:

- Jealousy
- Tall poppy syndrome
- People who haven't achieved 1/20th of what BT has achieved in his life.

Simple as that.

You know a person can dislike something/somebody for a myriad of different reasons. Saying it all comes down to jealousy is pretty outrageous.

Just because I think Brian brings a bit of excitement to the game doesn't mean I'm actually Brian Taylor or even related to Brian Taylor.

Australia is known for tall poppy syndrome and Bigfooty is one of the biggest exponents of it.
 
On 7, BT is clearly instructed to act the way he does. If you watch him commentating on Fox before Channel 7:
(Pardon the Essendon videos, couldn't think of any other games off the top of my head)

And on MMM:

You'll notice there's none of that "WOW WEE WHAT ABOUT THIS HERE THEY COME WHAT A GAME WOW WEE", he actually calls the Football.

1. Channel 7 is a TV channel. People listening to the radio are generally in the car, and there isn't much else on, and you'll listen to the football no matter what.
2. On Fox and radio there are no ads between goals. There is no need for them to try and get people to continue watching, as you can't stop them changing channels at the end of the quater. Fox got its money in its subscribers, so it doesn't matter if you watch or not. Radio - everyone in a car listens to Radio, they really don't need to do anything.
3. Channel 7 need to keep viewers interested, even when the game is totally sealed. He is trying to get the more casual viewers to stay around. I remember in the Dreamtime game in 2013 or 2014 BT was during the 4th quater "HERE COME THE TIGERS, DO NOT GO AWAY, THEY ARE COMING!" as they were about 4 or 5 goals down and had kicked 2 in a row or something. The next morning I watched Game Day and the first thing BT said about the Dreamtime game was "Richmond were never in the game." He's there to keep people interested when the game is long over.

Now if we could get a commentary team of Anthony Hudson and Rex Hunt, that would be good.

It's not even down to the circumstances of Channel 7 being free to air, it;s simply Channel 7 encouraging him to be God awful for some reason. Watching Chooseday Night Football where he commentated on Nine in 2006, he was hardly noticeable among Garry, Brayshaw and Dennis. He simply called the game, and quite well at that. I don't know why by 7 have totally screwed a once half decent commentator with stupid directives to be idiotic and surround him with halfwits.

Yep. Nailed it. Flawless, saintlike commentator, given a bad reputation out of spite by the masses. Calling players ****tas and coming up with stuff like 'big boner Brown' has nothing to do with it.

I haven't seen a lot of his most recent work on Fox, he used to be very good when he was on C9.
