Ok so when the draw first came out our collective thoughts went something like this:

R1: Fremantle - worst team in history of AFL - easy win
R2: Sydney- Our bunnies, and at home - Win
R3: melbourne - Wooden spooners - easy win
R4: Carltank - Another of our bunnies, especially at home - easy win
R5: Western Bulldongs - tough one, but we could be flying at this point - 50/50

Most of us thought that given the heartbreak of the Collywobble final and that we are normally (not 2009) flying at the start of seasons, we would come out and smash the start of the season, however the following happened:

Otten - Knee season
Symes - Mystery knee injury not seen since
Moran - See Symes
Knights - interrupted preseason
Porps - interrupted preseason
etc... etc...

Then the season began:
R1 Fremantle - 2010 version is actually very good. Fremantle while suprising everyone in first round have shown it was no fluke and went on to defeat Geelong. Currently sit equal top with 4-1 record
R2 Sydney - 2010 version much better than we all thought. No bunnies here, they are the real deal currently sit top with 4-1 record
R3 Melbourne - 2010 version again much better than anticipated. Lost to Collingwood by 1 point (should have won), beat an injury ravaged Crows then go on to beat Brisbane. Currently sitting 9th with 3-2 record
R4: Carltank - Judd back just in time for our game. Suddenly Carlton look OK. Beat us and then back up to knock off Geelong.
R5: Western Bulldogs confirm exactly what we thought - top 4 side, hard to beat at Etihad.

Perhaps taking in to account the 2010 form of our opponents (not the anticipated form), our unbelievable bad luck with injuries, interrupted preseason etc... we aren't actually performing that bad!

Of course that doesn't help us win a game!!!!

+ as a bonus we have seen Davis is going to be good, Cook has been given an extended run and any thought of all the oldies going on again next year has been completely destroyed!
Now if we can just beat the ferals all will be good again....
I love Optimism.

I tend to agree, and said a simlar thing somewhere else.
We have either copped teams with big "ins" - Judd, then Johnson and Aker...or teams that have lost when they shouldn't have the week before..Melbourne and Bulldogs.

FWIW our game began in the backlines last year ..got it out of there quickly and gave the forwards every opportunity. This year, and I really was worried when we lost Otten .... our backline is a shambles.
If this can be a bit more settled..Johncock played OK and Rutten I thought also has been OK ...add Bock (hopefully) and Stevens (hopefully) we may get a bit of that back.

'Til then , we will struggle ... just like Hawthorn. And you do not lose your talent overnight - confidence yes, talent , no.

optimism is what is keeping me going at the moment.

remember, last year we were 3-5 after 8, we can potentially do the same thign this year...

We will be 2-6 at best which is one win away from where we were at the same time last year.

If Port don't win by 10 goals this week then they aren't trying.

Do you rate Port that much?

If you watched the Port game then you'll know that St. Kilda lost it more than Port won it. It was a horrible match and both teams were turning it over at will. I don't mind coming up against a Port team that played terrible to win against a team playing terribly. They might think it will be all too easy and do what they did against Geelong.

its not the results that have upset people quite so much, but rather than manner in which we lost.

And there cavalier attitude to the future as well is what’s pissing me off. It’s like, Meh, we’re that good, we will do as we like and try again next year and it won’t matter if the results are the same.

A good point to a certain aspect but what explains the messy and uncompetitive style of game that they have displayed in these last few weeks?

EDIT: And out of all the oldies I expect McLeod to stay on and possibly Goodwin, not all of them as you said.

That hints at a 'lazy arrogance'.

I see it more as a 'denial/ignornat arrogance'.

i.e. I don't think they are being cavalier at all.

EDIT: with news on Danger - it probably really is that bad!!
