(*I posted this at YnB.com and thought it would be worth reposting here)
Richmond MUST not get the PP this year.
With a lot of thought I have realised how deep the psychological effects of winning to knowingly miss out on the PP and avoid the spoon can have.
I myself have sometimes done a Kouta and hoped we get the picks. But I have done a lot of thought on how this issue will affect the future and I am now hell-bent on winning this week.
We must win.
It is a statement to the rest of the AFL. "We don't give a **** about tanking for PPs, Richmond are winners, Richmond are proud, Richmond are MIGHTY so WATCH OUT"
Culture.
This has been our deathbed for the last 25 years. We have constantly talked about how we need to change our culture. In just one game we finally have the chance to completely turn our club into having a success-driven WINNING culture mentallity.
Finally.
If Richmond and Carlton play in a Grand Final in 4 years or so then Terry will be able to bring 2007 up - especially if Richmond win and don't get the PP.
If we win and don't get the PP then sure, we miss out on a player.
But can you imagine how much pride the players would have in the future? Carlton supporters and ex-players are desperately hoping they lose and don't give a **** about winning.
These kind of attitudes can be rekindled in the future and used as ammunition in future finals.
If you are unemployed you can hold your hand out and receive benefits or you can get out there and work hard for your money. If you work hard you might only make the same amount you'd make by holding out your hand anyway, but are you telling me there isn't a difference in HOW you earn your money? Your mentallity is everything.
We must win this week. We can not have 44 players training in a soft culture where the cornerstone of success is looking around in hope that somebody ELSE will hand you the magic key.
We need to win this week because we need a culture where we look only towards ourselves to bring success, where we block out all outside influences and focus on one thing - to be winners.
