I've had my bleats about a few things the board has or hasn't done, but why on earth would we give a second thought to replacing the Costa team now - see link. For goodness sake, can't we recall the unviable mess Costa and Cook inherited not so long ago. They have turned the club into a viable well run operation.

O'K we haven't had the on-field success we would have liked, but we may not have had a club without Costa's intervention and Cook's expertise.

Let McMurrich [he'll never get my vote] and the others put their platform forward at the time of the next scheduled election. We don't need that sort of disruption now.:thumbsd:

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeexcellent!

So you think because Costa and Co made some brilliant moves financially 7 years or so ago we owe them their jobs for life?
Please, changes are needed at this club if we're to take the next step to glory. Sick of idiots continually accepting the garbage that comes out of the club.

I heard some discussion on SEN - the problem is (and this applies for quite a few clubs) that a EGM only requires 100 signatures. This is from the constitutions that were adopted along time ago. Apparently there is 130 signatures - that's out of 30,000 members.

I know personally one of the people behind this and they would never get my vote for anything.

Sign the petition and vote for the people behind it then. Are you taking it on trust that they know what they are talking about?

Oh for f***s sake read what Ammo Man said - these challengers should wait until the next board election.

did ammo man actually say we should give them their jobs for life???
i agree with him what we need now is to sort out what happened on the field which is what they are supposed to be doing and if that means getting a new coach that will happen...we dont need to be changing the whole board atm IMO anyway!

GOOOOOOOOOOSE of the highest order.

Well said Ammo Man. Complete agree with you. Cook is the best CEO in the land and Costa is behind Eddie in the president stakes IMO.

Mr Positivity at his best

I dont think it is a stab at Costa and Cook, more a smart idea to do with the timing of it all. Costa and possibly cook are leaving next season which will mean come end of next year Thompson will be out of contract and possibly a whole new board in to deal with it without much prior knowledge.

To get these people in a season early to get used to the club then make the important decisions isn't as silly as it sounds.

I think it would be a misake to replace the specialist coaches, head coaches and board in the one year.

Would be ok with change in forward and midfeild coach.

Would be very happy with a change in midfeild and head coach.

Would be extremely worried with a change in forward, midfeild, and head coach and ousting of the president and CEO. That is just rediculous.

I think thats why he wants change on the board now, because he got told Thomspon has one more year.

I just hope that 10 bad weeks of football don't see our club ruined. This is what all this mess has come down to.

If McMurrich loved the club so much, he would wait until after the air had settled! Plus I don't ever remember his name coming up when the club was in real trouble circa 1999!

Sounds like this bloke wants his name on the news!

Costa faces election in 12 months. And I think that's when Cookies contract runs out too. That's hardly life you dill.

This guy and the woman behind the other petition are F#$#Wits in the highest order.

Do you think replacing the whole board and also most likely a midfield and forward coach would get us anywhere next year ??? We've already lost the fitness coach who was close to some of the players.

What will get us going is a settled outfit. Sure we will need a new midfield coach as Lovell is out of contract. Hinkley IMO has to go as he hasn't delivered, even if he has time on his contract.

Cook is easily the best CEO going around. He has delivered, he has done his job. Keep him.

Costa, I think he has been good, he has stuck up for Victorian clubs, especially his when it has counted. That is his job, which he has done well. Why get rid of that ??

It isn't Costa's or Cook's job to get out there and perform. That is the PLAYER'S RESPONSIBILITY !!!!!

Some people just need to get over it and get on with SUPPORTING their team instead of being protaganistic.

Stand up, say Go Cats and lets get on with getting our guys fit, and prepared for next year. Oh and tell the other D##kheads to get stuffed if they ask for your signature.

Or sign it and be a D&&KHEAD too, and whilst you are at it, get a Richmond ticket as that's what you deserve for signing such crap.

Some of the crap you come up with...

Close the thread, we've all heard the same speculation over and over and over.

Pre cook and costa...and bomber, we were a basket case. 6 mil in the red, a derelict and ageing ground, no captain or coach, a list that was going no-where and no bank would touch us with a ten foot clown pole.
Post costa and cook, record memberships, significant and successive profits, a list that SHOULD challenge but for reasons to be investigated didnt, a kick butt home ground, I guess we still dont have a captain, and I think we have a decent coach that has nutured a group from the ground up that will challenge for the cup for the next few years, but maybe lacks quality assistants?...

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is we dont need a bunch of cowboys that want their names in the paper and so far havent offered anything that will benefit the club at this point in time. Wont the EGM cost a few dollars and cents to hold anyway, I hope these guys are paying for it! Cook and costa's record speaks for itself. Cook is one of Australia's leading sports admin guys, and costa i'm sure is a darned tough business man (watch out for those fruit and veggie guys) who I'm sure has had to make some tough calls in the past. Let these guys decide their own fate and the fate of the club. They will step aside when the time is right, why is there a need for bloodletting now after an ordianry season and when there is still so much potential for the future?

Personal agenda

All these idiots have one and none had the Balls 7 yrs ago to put cash up front like Costa to keep the club alive. Now it is alive they all want back in.

I don't really understand all this stuff about EGM's and everything but surely the club knows what is best for the club. Why do members want to get in the way? The club wants a premiership (no dah) and I'm glad the members have a chance to voice their oppinions but I don't really see how it will help the club for the future.

This "bloke" is the guy who got rid of John Devine and brought Malcom Blight to the club. He has been Vice President of GFC. If he waited until the air had settled it may be too late.

When he spoke on SEN yesterday he said he wasn't necessarily pushing for a complete revamp of the board but thought that a board election and replacing Thompson in the same year (2007) would be too much at the one time, so why not bring the election forward. His second point was that the board lacks any "football" people and since it can have nine members and currently has seven we should bring that experience on board.

I think he makes some good points - I would not like to see wholesale changes within the football department and a new board in the one year. Costa and Cook have done wonders bringing the club back financially but as yet have failed to deliver onfield - maybe the edition of one or two board members with experience in this area could be beneficial for the GFC in taking that next step forward.

I'm just a little concerned that if what is said above is true, is that he is already preparing for a new coach for the season after next, when the next season hasn't begun yet...It wouldnt give bomber much confidence through out the year knowing that he is in the gun no matter what results he turns out. I agree that if there is another 2 slots on the board availible...go nuts, fill it with experienced people, but for the mean time, IF bomber is our 2007 coach, he should be given the full support of the board for the entirety of the season and beyond. Give someone confidence and security in their job and they will do a much better job than someone who knows he is gone at the end of the year.:thumbsu:

Great post Ammo. Agree with you 100%. From what I know Costa doesn't intend standing again, anyway. Let him finish his term. As for Cookie, I can't recall a better CEO. And these guys don't grow on trees - sign him up before he decides to go elsewhere.

As for McMurrich, what did he achieve during his time on the board? For mine, he's a disruptive influence. As Ammo indicated, we were a basket case before Costa became Chairman and Cookie got the finances and administration in shape.

Oh, and Renegade, you're deadset pillock.

So by "beyond" are you are saying that if they don't sack him after the review they should extend his contract?

Also, if they don't extend his contract aren't the board effectively saying that he doesn't have their full support - especially since his last contract renewal came a year before the contract was up.

Leaving Thompson in place but not extending his contract wouldn't give Bomber much security, he would feel like a dead man walking.

The whole situation is a mess and it ain't going to go away quickly.
