just remembered somthing funny today, why the heck did we ever draft steven sziller? He was possibly the worst retired hack, ever to be drafted, in the history of the game.

cheers

but seriously WTF.

He did single-handedly get us through to the prelim against Brisbane, but that's about all he did.

does anyone buy into Miller's reasoning that we could only afford cheap hacks and not new youngsters?

Absolutely. A draft pick who hasn't been on a list gets a 2-year deal, incurs a transfer fee, and $39,300 base, $2,200 a game and a bonus of $6300 for playing 11+ games in a year. A $150,000 investment over 2 years (11 games each year)

The recycled hack. $51,500 base - plus $2,200 a game. So $75,000 (11 games) for one year and then he can sacked without paying out his contract.

A club can look at two hacks for the same commitment as looking at one kid.

The club was over-budget. We had to cut costs.

Hi Goodie

I had forgotten about him while I was submitting a post on the "questions for Spud" thread. Sziller played one good game for us. The winning final against the Blues in '01 but that was it. I remember he kicked 6 against us once when he was with the Saints. Bastard!:D

So isn't that the main reason why we are so bad at the moment? A lot of people here blame Danny Frawley, but it seems our financial situation was more to blame for getting washed up hacks than our former coach.

absolutely not how much was it miller managed to overspend on the footy dept 800k springs to mind. the simple fact is miller got it wrong but richmond people being richmond find all sorts of excuses. jeez he could find the money for big name players like brown and johnson could have paid for 6 kids with what they earn.
