Leon Cameron considered the question last week.

I don't think Cameron Wight is ready for a key position and our backline seems settled. What about after a BOG at Werribee and now with Monty out that we try something unconventional and put the athletic Wight on a wing or flank?

The selections in the next few weeks will tell us a lot about what Eade and his staff are thinking about the marginal players as well as the rising youngsters. Unfortunately for those of us curious to know how this or that idea would work out, we'll probably have to start losing to see wholesale experimentation.

To be honest, I thought that Leon was being tactful with a question that might have seemed a bit loopy. I took him to be saying that he had more work to do on his defensive game. One possibility is to try Wight as a mobile tall forward but I'd be surprised to see him on a wing where his height wouldn't advantage the side much. We get a lot of drive from wing and half back as it is.

The appropriate question might be, how about in the forward line!

cam has spent the better part of his career being groomed as a chb with reasonable success, it seems his body size is the only thing holding him back from afl level. Yet on the weekend he's popped up with 3 goals for werribee, i didn't see the game at all as i was at the dome but he's kicked more that pods and davidson, so perhaps he could play as a tall up forward?,
He's quick tall, a strong mark and reads the play well, he's a great spoiler and can provide a contest, has become quite physical despite his lack of body size. At 200cm he may be an interesting matchup.
Eade has tried minson on short doses but he's not a natural forward despite having a fair crack. Street just isn't much of an overhead mark and gets pushed out of pack marking situations. Wight on the other hand is very good in the packs, and has learned to position himself well from his time in defence. Might be worth a shot.

or am i just going crazy?

I would love to see Cam brought in this week.It is really time for him to prove himself.

Its likely that Kmac or skipper are gonna come in this week but id much rather see wight come in for his 3rd game along with a small.

He can play ruck if needed. Can go to teh backline to play on Mccarthy or can go fwd and create some head aches or atleast make a contest.

This week was the first time I've heard Wight playing forward (well kicking 3 goal). I don't see why you would play him wing at AFL level when he hasn't played there for Werribee.
Besides why would we want to slow down our side by playing him wing? If Kmac was'nt fast enough for wing then Wight isn't either.

Give him a run along side Grant at either end.

What I couldn't fathom is that we are a side crying out for talls, yet when one comes back in (ie Minson) we drop another (ie Skipper). Why can't we ever play tall and actually see how it goes ?????

Come finals time when the pressure is on, bombing long to the forward line is something that you just have to do on occasions.

probably because they aren't good enough.

we just want 1 that we can say is the next grant or carey.

not too much to ask for is it? ;)

Skipper hasn't really had an extended period in the forward line and neither has anyone of the other talls available for that matter so how can we judge whether they are the next "Granty"

Perhaps our currently formula of playing smalls is a winning formula. :)

No one is expecting another Grant or Carey to come from of our current developing talls. They are once in a generation/perhaps lifetime players. Skipper was good enough for most of the year, but as soon as Minson was available he wasn't apparantly. Not once has Minson, Skipper and Street all been 'good enough' to warrant selection in the same week.

not against adelaide and they're the team to beat. We got flogged this year and also last year at footy park. We only beat them at telstra dome last year because we moved darcy to FF and he kicked 6.

Playing small won't win you finals in outdoor conditions. History says so. I would love to be wrong come september but I am afraid I won't be.
