I think it's a no-brainer. The best footballer ever to grace the grass of an AFL/VFL ground in N.Buckley should, upon retiring in 2010+, hand the esteemed #5 to the next superstar of Australian Rules, M.Clarke.
Everyone knows how similar they are in every respect, some even suggesting paternal siblings. It makes sense. Doesn't it?

I reckon they should retire the number 5 jumper.

He has clearly been the best Magpie of the Modern Era!

I expect that they will retire it, but only for so long. Then it will be handed to the next gun recruit.

you dont retire the number 5 jersey, many greats before buckley have worn it!
at this rate the kid will buckle under the pressure and will be on the first boat home back to his potato patch.
I think they should treat clarke similarly to how they treated heath. Low key and dont give him game time till he is ready, everyone must admit that heaths rise up the ranks has suprised. i have a feeling clarke will do the same, but give him a few years

Good call 42,keep it low key,as everything that pertains to collingwood is exemplified 10 fold.

Out of interest, someone's just asked me who wore No. 5 at your mob before Figjam?

My first guess was Mark Richardson but I think that's wrong? Anyone got the answer?

Ron McKeon
The funniest thing that ever happened at the footy for me, was watching Buckley's first game for us at Vic Park.

Me and the old man had just moved over after a five year sentence in Adelaide for Dad's work, and he took me along to the 1994 Round 1 hit against Fitzroy.

The game was plodding along and we weren't dominating as we should've, but Bucks was doing OK. At one stage though, he put in one of his trademark 50 metre zingers, nailing a bloke a mortal wouldn't have even attempted.

It was at this point, this big Ronny McKeown look alike, with the #5 on his well worn jumper shouts out; "You might do Ronny's number proud Buckley!".

Me and the old man pissed ourselves. We'd watched him for a couple of years dominating for Port Adelaide, and we both knew he was a freak. We were the only ones to get it at the time. The rest is history!
