Player Watch Will Hayes

I know Will has deficiencies being a young player and all but he is only playing on three cylinders...Watch out when all eight fire up.

How do you expect any tackles inside 50 when we didn't play our usual ineffective locking the ball inside 50 game. When we had such high scoring efficiency the only stat that really matters for forwards is goals and he delivered 2 great ones.

Tackles inside 50… yes, only 3 laid last night in 30 odd entries.

Overall though… it’s reasonable to expect a young forward to lay tackles inside 50… to which Hayes has laid 1 in 4 games.

Not taking a shot at the kid, but maintaining that he has things to work on. Other weeks he won’t get rub of the green.. not convert the opportunities, and suddenly 0 goals, 5-6 touches and no tackles is a game where you potentially get dropped afterwards

He was probably playing last night because of injuries. (He trained in white) He is getting a series of games. Brilliant. Small forwards can be starved, all senior exposure is good. I have the thought and I dread sharing. Young and light framed he will need to be managed. This might crossover with Bobby. Hayes is to be kept.

Between Hayes, Shoota, Elliott, McCreery, the imminent return of Harrison, and the hopeful return of Hill, our small forward stocks are looking as good as any time I can remember.

Hayes has balance, speed, very tidy footskills, and a knack for goals. He's also a natural crumber, which is a point of difference to everyone else on that list bar Hill. He'll make it for sure, the only question is how good he'll get.

Some decent signs from a raw prospect in Saxena too. The bonus benefit also is that it could allow for someone like HH to hone in on his midfield and wing skills too vs proper deep small forward work which others can cover. Think he’s got real potential there if his body holds up to it.

He's still a work in progess, but you can tell he has some small forward traits. Just needs to find more of the ball and then i think we got a good player for the future on our hands.

Averages over a goal a game as a very slight player in his second year..

Definitely a player, 3-4 of his goals this year were scored because of outstanding composure.

The injury sucks for the kid but I think it’s clear we have a decent small forward on our hands here.

Only 6 touches last night but had 3 score involvements and thought his hunt on the ball was great. He’ll even more dangerous once he puts on a bit of size.

Hopefully it’s not too bad as he didn’t have ice on it in the rooms after the game from what I saw
He just has class written all over him, and he is aggressive in his defensive actions which just makes him so important for our future
