Never seen supporters more divided on a player before, sick of seeing it leak into every other thread. So here is a thread to put it all into. Will Mitch brown make it at AFL?

Discuss! And leave it out of the other threads

I want him to, therefore he will?
Tall, skilled, improving durability and aggression, quality kid, why not?
Opportunities this year could see him make it as a Lachie Henderson type at best.

I see the votes have him as 100% chance, time to close this poll, will never be better for Mitch.

Is Walker ahead of him? I think a forward line of Hawkins, Vardy and Walker is almost to tall. Can he play down the back? Lonners, Harry, and Mackie are the 3 talls down back. I think injuries have hampered his development and after 6 years on our list, could be looking at make or break this year.

I've watched Mitch's progress since he was drafted and yes, he will make it ... if he gets the opportunities, a clear role and the confidence to go out and play. The swingman role could be where he stamps his presence on the game.

But, wait, this is Big Footy and floodgate is now open for armchair pundits who forget he had a broken leg and two shoulder injuries early in his career, can't see past his lighter build and laconic style ... and then put on the blinkers to boost other equally unproven draftees.

Let's give him a fair go and then - here's a novel idea - we could try balanced and informed commentary on his future.

But wait! This is BigFooty.

you would think if he hasn't "made it" by the end of this year then his a goner
No doubt, there's about 8 others on the list in the same camp too. However, this is his year. There are probably two or three spots up forward one that is his if he wants it.

i personally think he will make it for he is the markologist after all

I have watched the reply of the Pies game and seen him play all his senior games - and a few VFL games.

The impression I get (as surely I need to watch a few more games to be confident in what I say here) is - he is a good kick of the football, has decent hands re marking, is a good height and weight now.

Some people say he has a laconic style - and that maybe BUT he seems to me to lack a hard edge or enough aggression presently. When he misses the footy he can often seem to lack the really hard endeavour to chase and tackle. He seems too often to be out of the play for me.

However I temper this with his major injuries which surely has cost him at least 2 seasons and more - and he has played a mere 10 senior games. Not nearly enough to say he has had sufficient exposure to get confidence at that level and the feel of senior footy.

So I am seriously 50/50 on the guy at present. From what I read from guys who have seen more, he has a good skill. I think he would need to play at least 8-10 senior games this season and show something in those games to be assured of being on the list in 2015.

The problem I have is will he get that amount of senior games this season. We have a stack of young players we would like get some senior experience and that will make it hard for Brown to get a lot of senior games unless Hawkins or Vardy get injured.

I think that GHS, McCarthy, Smedts, Schroder, Simpson, Cowan, Murdoch, Vardy, Kersten, Thurlow, Blicavs and even THunt (and HMac) will all get trialled as none of these guys have played enough senior footy to say they are certainties - none have fully established themselves in the senior team.

Given that list of young players that do need a run this season to see if they are up to senior standard - it will be hard for Brown to get the 8-10 senior games I reckon he needs to have had a fair go at showing us what he can do at senior level.

So I think he is up against it. GFC is not going to play a heap of these players in any single senior game as it still wants to have a go at Top 4 or at least top 8 IMO.

So can he make it ? It looks like tough road to me and if Kersten comes in and plays well it might be curtains for Brown- as I think he is more a forward than a backman.

Yes. He'll make it. We'll see many players "make it" over the next few years who would not have got a game in the 2007-2011 side.

I voted yes but my more nuanced view is he will make it if he is given an extended run as a forward and he won't make it if they try to make a backman out of him.

Will be an indication of how far we have slipped.

Thats it in as nutshell

If Geelong are going to be a top 2 0r 3 club - trying to get in Grand Finals -and win more Premierships - then Brown wont come into calculations = because hes not good enough - same goes for Walker -

But if Geelong becomes - just another club - and there are plenty of them- that just drift between 7th and 12th for the next 5 or 6 years - then Mitch Brown will become a regular

Id rate someone like Paul Jeffreys ( who was a good honest player at best) a far superior footballer to what Mitch Brown has dished up so far
