anyone think Thalassi and Kyrgios could possibly spur Tomic to achieving a semblance of his potential, or will he always throw in the towel and not fight like the other kids?

i think the drive gotta be internal, and it is not good looking towards external motivation.

when his father told Hewitt that he was not worthy of training with Tomic, i think this set the dye in cast

with a father like this as such a plonker, what hope did he have

From what I've seen of Tomic in the past few slams he seems to quit easily IMO. I think we are more likely to see these two boys over-take Tomic and push him into the background rather than give him a motivative push. Mostly due to attitude, which is clearly passed down from said plonker.

he has his lamborghinis like scud, he has his willing sex partners like scud, he has the financial security til he has to file for bankruptcy like scud

whats not to like

Attitude, skill, mental and the embracing of fans is what the Super K's have in spades while Tomic's just another player.

In my mind, they're already better than Tomic.
Whether they can be better than Matosevic and Ebden is another point.

My next 2 favourite Aussie players.

Their female equivalent is Ashleigh Barty.

Don't know who's Tomic's.

If you don't care in the first place, which I don't think Tomic does, then there isn't going to be a motivating factor.

I think Tomic will eventually deliver some semblance of his potential. Has had a difficult run of injuries recently, and the terrible off-court fiasco couldn't help. The loss of fight once the opponent is a set away from a win is not what you want to be seeing though, and it's a shame, because I don't remember him doing that too much until his ranking started slipping in mid 2012.

I agree, some big issues, but I think Tomic could also be a champion if things fall into place for him. I won't write him off just yet. He did reach the top 30 at one stage, which isn't anything to scoff at.

That said, I think Kyrgios will be the golden boy of men's tennis for the foreseeable future. It remains to be seen whether that might actually work in Tomic's favour and lessen some of the expectation pressure.

Tomic is a ****ing little shit with no heart! Go back to Monte Carlo ya flog and drive as many Mercedes as you want!!!

I know when they played the boys final at the Aus open the other year that the talk was that Kyrgios was favourite to win while Kokkinakis would develop into the better player long term but that has a bit of a Dean Waugh/Nathan Ablett smell about it to me (minus the blood relative part).

Not convinced as yet that Kokkinakis is any better than the other hyped juniors that haven't quite transitioned to senior tennis e.g. Duckworth, Saville, Kubler.

Regardless of what I think about Tomic, I have always loved watching how he plays the game, there is a beauty to his touch and feel which tennis enthusiasts can't help but love. So, for the sake of tennis, I hope he can bring his characteristic style into the top level of the competition.
