we need to win every game from here to have a decent shot at the top 4.

we could beat Port, could be coll depending which collingwood turns up, same as Ess and Adel.

I'm mostly worried about the stinky dockers, if its a repeat of the game agaisnt the equally stinky eagles we are in trouble.

while i do believe that every game is winnable base on the way we played Haw, i also believe that every game is un-winnable based on the way we played the eagles, and our early form this season.
football is a funny game and a week is a long time in football.

if we miss the top 4 a Grand Final or possible premiership success looks impossible.

go saints

Will we blow a top 4 spot? Almost certainly. We'd need to win every single match remaining, and have results fall our way. The way we've been playing this year, can you see this happening? But hey it's not an impossibility, and that's enough for me and as you say, a week is a long time in football. Go Saints :thumbsu:

I saw the prices on betfair at the start of the game, they were only offering 1.10 for the saints? er okay! We lost to West Coast and have a terrible record against port! Well it's half time and at least we are in it! Go saints in the second half!

If we hadn't lost to WCE we'd be in the top 4 right now. Anyway many results fell our way and also

- Collingwood: Bad form
- Adelaide: Injuries
- Freo: Sucks
- Ess: Playing well atm but should win.

So we've got good chance of winning all 4 games. We're gonna finish in top 4 if we stop playing s**t like last two games (PA, WCE)

I would be very happy to just see St.kilda play finals. Like the Fremantle win, this was one of the worst victories in St.kilda's history. Port had so many players out, yet for the second week in a row, the Saints were not switched on.

All of those teams can knock us off, there are no easy games. Need to treat everyone with absolute respect. We need to emulate Geelongs mental attitude.

Im with you on this one Chris. Id love to see us just make the finals. Even if we bomb out.
Just the difference of finishing top 8 as appose to 9th or 10th, will make a huge difference mentally to the group going forward.

My main concern at the moment is the last two games would have knocked the boys' confidence down a bit and we all know how the Sainters play when their confidence is low. Chipping the ball around and not running and going direct. A big show against Coll could bring it back but it's still a concern.

The main reason we struggle against Port is we don't have an alternative when they put three blokes on Riewoldt. They also scrag and hold off the ball more than any other team in the league. You gotta say this about the Saints (especially without Baker); we play the game fairly.

If we win the next three, then IMHO, we will have tied up fourth spot before the Essendon game.

Firstly we beat Collingwood. We'll be two games clear of them (and Brisbane, who will lose to Hawthorn.)
Sydney lose to Geelong and Collingwood.
Adelaide lose to Essendon and the Western Bulldogs (and us).
Kangaroos lose to Geelong and the Western Bulldogs.

Then again, we could drop the next four. But it was good to win yesterday, even if it didn't feel like it.

BTW, the only two teams to win 10 games in each of the past six seasons (2003-2008) are Sydney and St Kilda. During that time, almost every other team has had a bad season.

Port Adelaide: 2006 8 wins, 2008 5 wins
Geelong: 2003 7.5 wins
Adelaide: 2004 8 wins
Kangaroos: 2006 7 wins
Brisbane: 2006 7 wins,
Essendon: 2005 8 wins, 2006 3.5 wins
West Coast: 2008 3 wins
Western Bulldogs: 2003 3.5 wins, 2004 5 wins, 2007 9.5 wins
Hawthorn: 2004 4 wins, 2005 5 wins, 2006 9 wins
Collingwood: 2004 8 wins, 2005 5 wins
Melbourne: 2003 5 wins, 2007 5 wins, 2008 2 wins
Richmond: No winning seasons in that time
Fremantle: 2008 5 wins
Carlton: No winning seasons in that time

Like to see us make top 4 to dispel some of the beliefs around the club. But extremely extremely unlikely imo. I see it like this...

Collingwood: Just had a kick up the arse, will coming out firing

Adelaide: Had 2 good wins, will be tough even at TD

Dockers: Better than the eagles, so danger

Essendon: On fire

All of them 50-50 i think.

I was disappointed with the $1.14 to win so I backed them to win by less than 36pts - paying $2.35 - am happy with that.

I actually want to appreciate NH's voice in the conversation, but it's very frustrating that she only comes when it's been a loss. She's the thunder that only happens when it's already raining.

Seriously, Nexus, I'm sure you float in here at other times - drop us a line when things are going right. If you do, the credibility of your whole argument will skyrocket. But because you haven't been doing that, it just makes you LOOK like a troll. I don't think that's necessarily your intention, but it's what your silence in the good times communicates.

[Edit: Actually, come to think of it, this is one of the reasons I really appreciate Signed Seald Sainter - he really digs at us when we play badly, sometimes mercilessly. But I'm more than willing to appreciate his point of view, because he balances that with praise and recognition of when the players have put in a good game.]
