Is there anyone than can give us a run down of the Collingwood listed players went? Coin_Toss?

My quick review:

2 Rusling - Was pretty quiet. Was used pretty sparingly on the wings. When he got the ball he looked to take on players and use his speed. Is still a while away.

9 - Rowe - Showed a fair bit of class but in the end was pretty quiet. Still one of the best, play wing but mainly HBF. Disposal has improved but needs composure and better decision making in his disposals.

12 - Walker - Was pretty crap in defence. He was ok defensively but didn't get into th game. Was one of the many to be beaten in a contest by Pods and then moved off him probably prematurely.

19 - Davies - Was pretty good. Usual Davies VFL performance. Gets the ball and runs with it. Disposal and composure needs work.

28 - Stanley - Average kick, good mover but gets himself in trouble a fair bit. Played back pocket and midfield. Probably doesn't get enough of it at this stage. Overall was ok.

30 - Fanning - Average day. not poor but not great.

31 - Anthony - was ok. is composed and has good disposal. gets shown up a bit with his relatively small body and inexperience as a defender but looks like a good future key back.

33 C.Cloke - Worked really hard and his marks are sticking. I have never been a detractor of Gotch but he seems to have no clue. He plays him as the CHF and rotates with Lawry. He obviously tells the CHF to be stationary inside the square. Doesn't lead enough. This is not fault of CC but the coaching staff/gameplan as Lawry and whoever was playing CHF had the same problem.

34. J.Cloke - Probably a below average game compared to JC's usual VFL performance.

37. Iles - A class above in the Willy 2nds. Although "class" isn't the word to use with him. Just a level above them.

38. Iacobucci - Was easily Collingwood's best player. Played consistantly well, got alot of it and was everywhere. Never really faded out of the game which is a plus.

40. Hall - I only saw 2nd half of the 2nds but in this half he was actually a class above in the forward line. Showed some good aggression and desire. Didn't play against a spud either played against Jesse Wells who is on the Bulldogs list. If he can show this attitude in the VFL seniors and show something like that at that level I would consider rookying him.

41. Toovey - Didn't see much of him but when moved on to Pods at the end went well. Has alot of courage but is a bit of a J.Cloke in that he is not a KPP nor a small defender.

44. Nichols - VFL 2nds are way below his level. Looks like a real good long term prospect.

45. Cox - Very quiet (played seniors). Although playing at FF is probably not his gig (unless at willy 2nds).

Thnx Jabso , what the hell are they doing down there at Willy playing Cox at FF and consistantly playing Rusling up the ground , Rusling should be at FF he would be kicking bags.

Fitness probably does have a bit to do with it. Hopefully so does the fact he looks so much a wingman it isn’t funny. He has perfect height and pace for a damaging play making wingman and in a side that lacks a bit of foot speed he could be a real asset. We have enough marking forwards and if we get a ruckman it will be hard for him to slot in ahead of Rocca, Tarrant and Fraser let alone allowing for Travis Cloke to play as a forward at times. I am glad to hear he is being played on a wing.

PS good stuff jabso.

Rusling has good height for a wingman and elite pace would suit the expanses of wing. What is his endurance like? Does he have the tank to run in the midfield?

From what he showed in 2005, his biggest impediment to playing midfield in AFL are:
1. Agility. Seemed to have good straight line speed, but none of the Ben Johnson agility sideways.
2. ball winning at ground level below knees was average at best
3. ability to read the play in midfield is questionable. Has played all junior footy as a key position player.

Reckon his best chance of making AFL level is as a marking forward, but given his height (189cm) I hope he can add a few strings to his bow (midfield or defence).

My query over playing Rusling on a wing is only because he was a bit quiet and Willy lacked leading forwards. I agree he can do some real, pack splitting damage on the wings. But he needs to improve his ability to get the ball.

It's not so much his height but the combination of his size (he is pretty built) and speed that make him a dangerous proposition as a wingman.

I agree with all this. Especially the last bit. For mine, he's not a natural at ground level and his lateral movement is average at best. However, if he's gonna give himself the best chance of becoming a very good player, he needs to be able to play more than one kind of role. So let's not pigeon-hole him too early as only a lead-and-mark forward. Let him spend some time on a wing -- and work like hell on his deficiencies. If he can add improved agility and ability to find the ball at ground level to his other obvious strengths (marking, pace on the lead), then he could be an excellent player.
