I agree he'll probably be a bit more relaxed now. He was close to the record for the past 12 months but looked like he may not get to it. Now hes got it, he could be more relaxed and in my opinion, that will make him more dangerous.

I just finished watching the match then on Fox (thanks to Southern Cross not having the rights to show it live last night) and im buggered if I know why people think Roddick was clearly the better player. Maybe early, but in the last set he was hanging on by the skin of his teeth and Federer was constantly pushing Roddicks service games to deuce.

Couldnt imagine something beating last years epic but this one did. I dont see Fed as being arrogant and Sampras has called him very humble and the greatest ever. Thats good enough for me. Fed will go down as one of the best sportsmen of all time.

Ouch, I bet TP's burning away a response to this one. ;)

and Sampras has called him very humble and the greatest ever.

Well at the risk of making himself sound stupid, he can't really say anything else - even if he did think he was a dropkick.

Reporter: "Oh yeah, Pete - what do you think of Federer breaking your record?"

Sampras: "Oh well, he's a bit of a w***er really isn't he......"

Can't exactly see that happening! :D

Doubt he'd have even touched on the subject of his personality if he didn't think much of it.

that would rule if he said that :D

Wow, what a game. Was a bit mean from Roddick when he yelled into Federer's speech, Fed was just trying to make Roddick feel better.

Great last set though, really kept me on the edge of my seat. :thumbsu:

Who cares, seriously? He's shattered and wanted to get off the court, lets all bag him. I don't care about a tradition, many players have walked off early and many more will.

One can only imagine your ranting though if it was Federer....

Federer is losing it. He's gonna have to make the most of Nadal's injury because when he comes back Federer wont win another GS.

You've been saying that for 2 years. :thumbsu:

I said that Andy was the better player last night. I think my Andy-bias was showing there, thinking about it today, while he was better early and should of taken a two sets to love lead, it was Fed who ended up taking his chance and saving those crucial break points at 8-8. Also serving more aces as well, it's probably wrong to say that. There really wasn't a btter player out there, just somebody who was able to take their chance when necessary and held their nerve.

Still sad for Andy though

This is why Federer is the greatest, he is able to win the most important points, and thats all that counts

i'm glad roddick spoke up, was poor form by fed saying that. I know he was trying to make him feel better but he went totally the wrong way about it by saying he knows how he feels.

1st serve win % Federer 89% Rodick 83%
2nd serve win % Federer 57% Roddick 41%
Receiving win percentage Federer 30% Roddick 23%

The stats show us that Federer won through a better ability to follow up his second serve and a better ability to return Roddicks serves both 1st and 2nd allied to greater winer hitting ability both from serve (50 V 27) and in play ( 57 V 47) counteracting a propensity to give away above par unforceds 38 V 33).
how about this stat: roddick was one simple volley away from winning the match

the excuse is, english is not his first language  i wonder if that prevents
him from expression his feelings as well.I am glad roddick spoke up, just like muzza did in a press conference.

Do please try to stop the boring repetition of words like "w***er" "tool" etc etc when people disagree with you. It makes you sound like an oikish teenager.

A man was a set down and 2-6 in a second set tie breaker but you see no courage or achievement in coming back. Your prerogative. Some of us think it a fantastic achievement from a man who is past his stellar best but still a fantastic shot maker and player.

cause you are a tool. Saying rafa is talentless is being an arrogant ****wit. Go ask roger if he thinks rafa is talentless, he will give you the answer. He is so talentless that he isthe only one in the world who can beat your man  and i call you are a tool cause you are one.Shall i quote some of your past predictions again and how ridiculous they were? this will confirm whether u are a tool are not. And you still go on making stupid predictions which doesnt make u look any better

While Roger Federer is no doubt a great champion and wonderful ambassador for the sport he is along way from Rod Laver as the greatest ever. Laver won all 4 grand slams in 1962 as an amateur and then turned professional and was barred from playing the 4 slams until 1968. In 1969 he again won all 4 grand slams in one year. Roger or Rafa will need to win all 4 in one year to be called the greatest.

When a player of any sport chooses to clothe in gold attire, he surely has to produce the goods on the field of play. Roger Federer has a wide range of shots at his disposal that are for the most part, 'just too good'. Equal credit however, must be accredited to the brave runner-up. With a career on the way down in a sport where comebacks are non-existent Roddick resurected his game & fitness levels to Slam winning standard within 8mnths.Not since the lion hearted 'Crisp' was caught at the 'Elbow' by our formidable 'Red Rum' in that unforgettable 70's Grand National has the sporting world winessed such a courageous loser. Hats off to you Andy. The footage of you weeping on the stairway will live with most of us forever.

Could you possibly be any more melodramatic?
