I would find it tough for anyone to enticed from Nhill to travel to Taylors lake with Deek. Nhill's Burden being so remote to the major cities is also a small blessing that it is far enough away for the District league to try and poach there Locals unless you say Kaniva. The issue Dimboola have with those Darwin guys is I think most will fall under 1 or 2pt players otherwise you would just let them go. I would say they would be asking good coin to keep traveling. At the Burras Vote count the president publicly announced they're in serious talks with Rupanyup on merging! fairly big statement to throw out to the members as the season finishes. looks like stawell have picked up swifts guys with only 1 being a senior footballer and eckle back you think they would go a step further but for some weird reason they just never can do it when Eckle is there.
It sounds like you’re saying Eckle is the problem. If you’re I strongly disagree. They haven’t had the side in his era to go all the way

IMO I don’t think the problem can be eckle considering he is a top player of the comp and should only strengthen the side and morale. But history and data shows exactly that.

Walder finished at Warrack?
Yes, I think that was announced ~1 week ago. If true then that would have been 2 years for him this time (I haven't followed the league for too long but I seem to recall reading that he coached there a long time ago as well ... maybe I'm totally wrong on that one!).

But anyway, 1 win last year and 3 wins this year .... would we consider that somewhat of a job well done (showing improvement coming from a long way back) or should have done better?

Yes, he coached them when they merged leading them to a famous victory over Ararat in their first season. Played in the GF a couple of weeks after suffering a fractured cheekbone in a final against Horsham.
Casting their net wide, having already spoken with Ballarat based candidates.

Deadset Gun player love watching him play, but you are correct.

I’m keeping an eye on who leaves the warriors though, I don’t know the bloke but from the few blokes I know in around the Stawell football region you either love him or hate him.

Do we think a M-M / Rup merger will strengthen M-M much?

I don’t know a lot about Rup.
But I know there’s a lot of powerbrokers out there, could we see another Thunder model emerge out there?

I think a cashed up M-M-R has a decent local base to build around for the next 5-10 years.

Name one powerbroker from Rup?

Rup would maybe have a few guys who could play seniors at minyip and theyd all be fringe. I highly doubt the burras would continue to fly guys from the nt in.

if they do merge there’s a lot of good players aged 15-20 in there that could make for a very good team if they get them together in the future.

The local guys that would push for senior selection would be Turner, Weston Finnigan, Kingston Downers & Scharpers

I said push for senior selection.
Burras bottom 4 this year would be lucky to get a game in Ararat 2s

Fraction unfair assessment but I get the jist. Most clubs now all feel vulnerable I think at this time of the year with limited helpers and volunteers to share the load the offseason actually brings. I think the more clubs that merge the better for those reasons of strength even in governance/Admin roles. the cycle in country football will never change whilst there is 1 team more dominant ( generally financial) than the rest to push clubs further and further to find better and better players.. 3 years near the bottom ( let’s just develop the locals) after that the locals get poached by d leauge anyway for 2-300 a game.. the. ..3 years trying to push for a grandfinal spot importing guns. ( bring in 5-8 travelers). Then it goes back to the start. Historically the horsham teams haven’t had to do that but look now. Take saints as an example. Now saints first two recruits are gun for hire’s traveling that other clubs passed on their asking price. as the saints locals are getting tired of waiting for the team to “ develop” just after a club in d Leauge - natimuk poached their “ locals”.

If a club like horsham saints or demons merged with a warrack or Dimboola ( big farming money)they should be unstoppable for 15 years or more with population of junior pathways In schools , career security, farming financials & locked in member base

Would any of these actually make their best 22?
I saw 2 games of Rup this. First game against Kaniva and the second against Nati in the wet. Turner looks like a player, Finnigan & Kingston are only 18 year old with some buzz. R Downer is 16 with injury concerns, Scharper and Weston are getting on a bit but would hold down pockets. If they got Lachie Connor & Jordy Weidy back they would be great pick ups

they are all good players don’t get me wrong but I just doubt you could lock any in to a full strength mm

Club mergers are more than just the Senior footy though too. Fitting 8 grades of senior netball into 4 doesn't work. Can create some friction with long time club stalwarts, volunteers etc. The footy might be stronger but at what cost?
