Prior to this season i was talking to an afl scout who said to me something along the lines of "tarrant is the best wingman that never was"

He reckoned with an engine like that and being a bit timid infrom of goal, he could be the perfect link between half back and half forward and would rack up the marks and posessions.

i have always thought a similar thing about richo and last year we saw it in action. one of the most successful player moves i have seen.

The only problem is most coaches would be hesitant to 'waste' such a big body so far from goal. With this in mind...does anyone think Miller might too have missed this boat?

Huge engine, tries hard all day, perhaps doesnt run to the right spots often enough infront of goal. If in future years the chf spot was plugged by another player, does anyone think Miller could move up the ground. Maybe not but who knows.

Na, not Miller.

Like the idea, but only really, really elite runners can do that.

Miller might have a very good tank, but it's not in the same ball park as Richo, Reiwoldt or Tarrant.

Morton will be our answer - already can run all day after just two AFL preseasons and at 192cm, is only 2cm shorter than Miller. Once he adds some bulk, will be capable of being the player you're describing.

It is a good thought but Miller isn't as quick as the three players you have mentioned. I think it is fairly important that wingers have a bit of speed. Having said that it might be worth a try for a few games this year. That is the beauty of this year Dean Bailey can experiment as much as he wants to find out what works and what doesn't.

end thread.

you've got to have foot skills and high quality decision making capabilities to play in the MF. Christ, if that AFL scout was at Melbourne I'd be seriously concerned. Maybe he was having a laugh?

Tarrant an ELITE wing??? The only thing he's good at is playing a negating role in the backline because it doesn't require those skills i mentioned (to the same degree at least...)

Brad Miller will probably only ever be a lead up marking forward cause that's the only thing he really excels at..

Dunn has the qualities for it, has the engine and is relatively quick although I'd like too see him in the GOD DAMN FORWARD LINE!!!!!!!!

God damn I wish Bailey would read this, Lynden Dunn goes in the forward line.

FORWARD LINE!!!!!

Yep....at Casey

Yeah he probably lacks the speed for a real mf gig but i reckon his skills are solid around the ground.

Interesting though how the bigger bodies go in the Midfield ala Riewoldt, Richo, Brown, Pavlich. If only there were more of them

Richo to the wing is the most overrated coaching move ever.

He doesn't hurt you around the ground with his kicking. Neither would Tarrant. Neither would Miller.

Riewoldt gets a lot of ball up the ground but he is a) a great field kick and b) still kicks 3-4 goals a game.

Def not miller. His decision making is way too slow to be a link man. He struggles out of the 50 in my opinion. Some would say he struggles in the 50 as well.

Yeah but Richo does hurt you when he drops back into the hole in defence and takes marks in front of the leading forwards. He hurts you when he floats forward and takes marks inside 50. He played one of his best seasons last year and almost won the Brownlow. I don't think it is the most overrated coaching move ever at all.

The other thing that it allowed Richmond to do is develop young key postion forwards which is something the Demons will need to do in a couple of years when Watts comes in.
