Wingard needs to drop 5kg & play agro & arrogant as he once did. Can he even leap these days ?
Ken commented on his body shape and said he needs his current build due to his explosiveness. Hope our fitness guys are getting this right.

Chad is arguably the most naturally talented player we have on our list since Gavin Wanganeen. I don’t know what his professionalism is like outside of the public eye, but it’s pretty common knowledge that he’s not overly passionate about the game itself.

Does he need to be passionate? Absolutely not, the only time Dane Swan cared about footy was when he was actually playing it. I’m not even sure that Chad is enjoying his footy ATM and that’s worrying. He use to be Mr Reliable, a dead eye dick at goal, there was a genuine anticipation of something positive when ever he wa near the pill. Now he reminds of the player Tiger Woods became after his wife attacked his car with his Driver.

If this club is going to be successful in the near future & beyond, then this guy has to start playing at the level we all know he’s capable off. He has all the skills and attributes to become one of the clubs all time greats, but I fear he is wasting away his enormous talent.

What do BF folk think is going on...

He simply doesn’t enjoy playing the game anymore?
He’s unfit?
Being asked to play a role that’s not suited to him?
He’s bound by a our current dour & negative game style?
His confidence is shot?

I think we need to play him on-ball.

We should be able to manufacture enough goals from a forward line consisting of R Gray, Dixon, S Gray, Watts and hopefully Marshall.

We need creativity around the ball. Chad had half-a-dozen excellent games in the midfield last year. I'd rather play him in the midfield, and use Brad Ebert as a lead-up half-forward flanker for a few matches to see if we can change the link up between the lines.

I reckon that hamstring is still being managed, hence why he didn't take that shot on goal and could be affecting his field kicking.

I'm on record pre season as saying that he's not much chop as a forward in modern football (ie highly congested forward half, tackling and pressure at a premium) and that midfield is his go. Not many agreed and the coaching staff clearly didn't agree. I doubt he's been trained and prepared physically for any sort of extended spell in the midfield. They're going to keep playing him forward.

1, 3 and 4. Mainly 3. There is also the possibility he came back too soon from the hammy he suffered.

Id play him loose across half back. Let him get a whole heap of easy cheap kicks. Its the most superfluous role in modern footy, but lets get him back there and see what he can do. Chad running off half back for a couple of weeks could do all sorts of damage.

Could be injury, could be just another case of the Daniel Motlops. A few times this year i’ve Seen him go for highlight plays when he should be playing the percentages and keeping it simple. Every player goes through a form slump, let’s hope he can find his way back from the wilderness

People were biting my head off in another thread when I said that I'd be trading him at the end of the year to increase our chances of getting one of the gun SA kids in the draft.

Like to see what they're saying now...

I’d say you’re probably the type of bloke who if we did that in five years’ time would be saying that we should be trading out Izak Rankine to get a high pick in the 2023 draft.

Why would we trade out Chad Wingard to get a gun SA junior? Chad Wingard was a gun SA junior. If you’re so disappointed in him, what makes you think that Rankine or whoever else would be any better?

Not due to. He said he needs his current build to give him the explosiveness he needs.

My take is that we’ve identified that if Wingard is going to play midfield he needs to carry more muscle because he doesn’t have the quickness of a Robbie Gray. But if you’ve ever put on mass really quickly you’d know that it is possible to become “muscle bound” when the body becomes too heavy for the legs to carry and everything becomes laborious until the cardiovascular system catches up and you get used to carrying around more weight.

He’s now at 85 kg, which his ideal weight if he wants to play midfield full time. He was at 82kg last year.

Of course, none of that excuses a poor attitude and making hero ball mistakes when in possession, which is what I’m against. Maybe he’s frustrated that his body can’t respond as quickly as his mind at the moment.

Only one problem with that suggestion .. Chad is signed up until end 2019 .. he wont leave Port.

Chad was a gun SA junior who looks like his heart/head isn't in it anymore. It has nothing to do with his ability whatsoever, because we all know what he is capable of.

It seems like people are still living off of his AA seasons which feel like forever ago. It's similar to the way everyone goes on about Stringer in Victoria when really, he only had one elite year.

I understand your pov and certainly not having a crack. The thing is as a supporter you hope to get a high pick so you can draft a gun player and it's a bonus that he's from SA. Well that's Chad Wingard.

I personally see him as a symptom of our forward line dysfunction rather than the cause of it.
He used to be great with Schulz/Westhoff forward, we just aren't working well together.
He still leads us for scoring shots (why his set shot has deserted him I don't know) and goal assists.

Still saying you are a idiot.
