Wizard Cup - Blues v Swans

Thoughts on the Wizard Cup game between Carlton and the Swans?

Who should be played? Who needs more fitness? Do we hold Setanta and Walker back for a while considering the former's still learning the game and the latter had an interrupted preseason?

Are we a chance of winning in Sydney?

So many questions .... my Navy Blue heart is starting to beat a little faster that's for sure.

Realistically cant expect to win.
From reports it appears Walker will be rested & given time to prove 100% fitness.
Interesting to see if they play Lance. If he is fit, it wouldnt be bad to bring him off the bench & give him a 1/4 or perhaps 1/2 of game time.
My interest like many others will be who is used at CHB & also CHF.
Looking at the carlton website & results of the "blues" v "whites" game it would appear that the "blue" team will get a gig & perhaps the remainding balance (is it 6 now for Wizard ?) would be made up of perhaps Lance & 5 guys from the White team.
Probably - Bowyer, Mott, Mcormick, Kenna, & shamefully Wiggins.
Perhaps Norman will get a gig if Lance is left out.

Anyone coming up from Melbourne for the game?

I know its only a preseason comp, but this offseason has been so bloody long I'm hanging out for the footy to start!

I'll be ther, just wondering how many of you might be.

I'm not going... but hopefully I'll settled into a beer or two at the local in front of the big screen... I should really get foxtel :p

Interested to see that Angwin won't be making the trip as his attitude to training has dropped off after Xmas. If he doesn't play in the Wiz cup and is suspended for the first two rounds of the premiership, he really is up against it trying to save his career IMO. If we get a long term injury we might find someone like Carazzo or Pleming getting the call up first at this rate.

It's a shame for the rookies they aren't getting a run in this game actually because we have so many new senior listed players that we need to see in action first.

The Old Dark Navy's the mental side to a footballer’s game is very important especially when he isn't getting a regular senior game.

On a positive point Angwin played for the Bullants last night vs The Coburg Tigers, and if I’m not mistaken he kicked about 7-8 goals truly a class above VFL level. I watched the last half of this game and I understand that there is a big difference between VFL and AFL but there is no doubt this kid can be special.

Blue Fury, I really hope that this performance is the catalyst for a confident Angwin taken the bit between the teeth and going on with it from now. I wish I has have been down there to watch it. Him and Carlos in form at the same time would have been a sight to see.

Too right Jimmae, not to mention the smile it puts on our dials!:D

Sensational effort today. Stevens is pure class and Camporeale was back to his brilliant best with less pressure on him. Scotland accumulated stats and has great disposal. Kenna is an excitement machine. Clarke and Bowyer give us some real steel as does Teague. Morrell is a great thinking footballer so with him and Whitnall in the side, the creative juices will really be flowing. Most importantly, what we hoped would happen all along happened today in spades .... Fev was given great supply from the midfield. Wasn't all easy though, he had to take some strong grabs and display some brilliance to get the job done but deadset Fev is a superstar that is still yet to post enough runs on the board to be considered one. Give him the vice captaincy.

What a great game!

I know, I know, it's only the preseason and we were only playing a team that wasn't at full strength, but regardless of how I or anyone else looks at it, the result was a huge plus for the team.

Geelong next week, a team I think that we can realistically beat. Should be interesting but the signs are all there early on. The new recruits were fantastic with Kenna, Bowyer, Morrell and ofcourse Stevens my pick of an impressive bunch.

Go Blues!

Hard to find a non-contributer amongst the entire side.
What impressed me & gave me the most satisfaction was the HUNGER.
We started & finished the game at full tilt.
When looking at the sqauds, this was a game we had to win & do it convincingly, but 102 points was something totally unexpected.
I look forward to next weeks game against a more "bona-fide" opposition from Geelong as the test of what we can expect this year.
I would say that 8 wins this year is achievable & remembering that we only got 4 last year, that would be a signigicant improvement.
That said, it would suprise me to see us do a little better than that.
Pagan will lead us on the right track, amazing the job they have done with draft restrictions......amazing.
