Just got a question to whether people think playing VFL effects his confidence, came down for more oppertunitie and has been given that and been good at times, but not good enough to cement a spot and his recent VFL form hasn't been all that impressive. Do people think it is a confidence thing?

Cause he is only 21 , i think that when the club decided to bring him to collingwood i believe they have long term plans for Woody.
He is a developing ruckman. So i reckon another pre sesaon under his belt and we will start seeing a more emerging, bullocking ruckman.
Yes i suppose playing reserves does get the confidence down abit but woody will be back firing.
Josh and a stronger bodied Wood would be a good duo.
The one that has to keep playing for his life is Bryan.
The national draft this year by certain reports has 4 very good ruck options. We should chase 1.

Its a weird one because wood seems to beable to go upto senior level and play well but when at reserves doesnt seem to play at his best might just be a attitude thing

Still very happy we picked him up i love Bryan but i think Wood should of been put back into the team 2 weeks ago

I don't think it would get to him too much. There would be a plan mapped out for him and he has played more games this year than the last couple at Brisbane.

He will progress and play more games next year. As for playing VFL, it would be a step up from playing QAFL last year!

I was reading the other day that Jeff White is not likely to be retained by Melbourne. His form and body are still sound and he is a far superior ruckman to Fraser. What are people's thoughts on potentially taking him in exchange for say a Lonie (or similar 'depth' player/pick), act as a mentor for Wood in the next 2 years, and beef up the ruck stocks to keep pressure on the form of Fraser & Bryan in the meantime?

Highly Doubt it

I agree with BEEG that his AFL form has been o.k signs are good and I am glad we got him. I also take the point that from a development point of veiw being pushed in the VFL is better then playing in the QAFL.

What I am just wondering is how his confidence is at right now and whether that is an excuse for his poor VFL form. It is a big decision to make to that your ready for AFL and going to change club to do so, especially considering in all reality he was 3rd banana at Brisbane as big Beau was always on the way out.

Highly Doubt it

I also doubt we would get White, he'd probably go real cheap like Steven King but if we got him then Wood probably wouldn't get a secure game for two years or so (unless in that time he overtakes Fraser or White). I haven't watched many of Whites games, hasn't his form been pretty bad?

He seems to me to be one of those players that plays up (or down) to his competition. May also be struggling with fatigue somewhat, started the season better than he's finishing it.

That's a good point. For memory his pre-season wasn't great due to some illness. I have recollection of him doing a terrible time trial then it came out afterwards that he should not have run as he was sick.

He's probably running out of steam a little bit.

I think if that was the plan we would have traded a pair of mouldy old socks (maybe from a clean up at Vic Park) for Steven King last year. Given our esteemed leader's opinion on ruckmen generally I can't see it happening.

I believe he has had 37 touches in the last two weeks so does that count as an average run for a ruckman in the VFL - would he not come into consideration this week!

Would be interesting see if we do go for White given we're supposedly going to get Cousins. Fraser seems to be unable to get through a full season without breaking down and if we get Cousins who has probably only got 2-3 years in him then why not look at White who probably has about the same. Bryan can be let go and then we've got White, Fraser and Wood.
