I am sick to death of idiots like the person who wrote the report(in the sun) on last nights game saying we are workman like. This implies that we have no attacking flair skill! i can really think of only one player (there are prob more) that have a shocking kick and that would be obree. We hit our targets pretty well usually, especially when the ball is in the hands of Pendles, Burns, Didak, CLement, Heath and rhys recently, johnson, swan, fraser, rocca, d1ck, egan, bryan,lockyer...all these guys are really good kicks, some exceptional! dont know where these gay reporters get there info from, but give some credit where it due. If there views are based on the fact that we have to often carry players threw games coz they arent quite up to it at the minute, they are knew to the game after all EAD!
we are a class act and will be even more so in a couple of years time!

i take "workman like" to mean that all the players on the field did there bit and we weren't relying on one or two "star" players to win the match for us. so take it as a positive

Magpie 42. I read your comments and understand how you have assessed the comments made re - us being workman like. I have taken it as a positive statement about where we are at in comparison to other sides.
We work very hard 4 eachother ( the team comes first ). I cant remember anyone saying stop him.... or stop him.... this year and you will beat Collingwood. They have to stop half our team as we are so even across the ground. This is where we want our club going isn't it. We have stars like all the other teams. I dont think they all have to star each week like some teams require. Just do your bit within the team plan and we will win more than we loss. We may have a few surprise ( stars ) that can put their stamp on the game in finals i hope. Lets work hard as a team and put ourselves in that position first. Keep up the passion, good times ahead. :) :)

We don't rate Collingwood, we still don't, we tipped them to finish bottom 4, it's through sheer hard work that they've been able to overcome 'adversity'.
i think jabso has summarised it quite well! I think the other 15 teams would be mightly unimpressed if they were told they weren't working hard enough, its just rubbish! i think we are where we are because of good recruiting, investment in the right things and yeah..:D

One of the most boring workmanlike teams has been in the grand final the last two years and pinched a flag as well. Like Jabso said it is just petty anti Collingwood journos taking pot shots, whereas if it was the Swans they would be drooling.

are those reports in victoria? u have to read the crap and listen to the shiiite up here! u would have thought the lions dominated the game until the last min and jonathon brown kicked 8 goals

Who listened to the Fox commenatry? Lynch and Brereton virtually said Brisbane should have won it. :D :D

Yes - spot on! In 1990, we apparently only won the flag because there were a lot of ordinary teams going around. Most of these guys find it almost impossible to move beyond stereotypes: e.g. Geelong is always 'exciting', Port and the Dogs 'super-quick', the Saints 'talented and brilliant' etc. When results don't match these pre-conceptions (quite frequently), these teams cop it unfairly too.

I'll take the begrudging praise if it means we continue to slip under the radar. I'll bet Mick's not too unhappy about it either - they give him motivation ammunition almost every week!

Conversely Aboriginal players dislike that they are always labeled as flashy, or players with flair because it implies that they didnt work hard to get where they are - that it just comes naturally to them.

It all depends on your perception - I have no problem with people calling our team workman like - personally its a compliment and you are reading way too much into it.

And when we win the comment never " I was wrong", its usually a comment about how good Malthouse is at getting ordinary players to play above themselves.

I think we are look on as the workman like club. You look over the history of the VFL/AFL journo's always talk about players from other clubs before they mention ours. Like the team of the century how a club that between 1892 till 1958 wins 13 flags and dominates the comp cannot get a player in the team of the century is a mystery. We have some of the greats goal kickers ever to play but its Colman Wade Pratt who gets talked about first. We have a coach who wins 11 flags (could be wrong about the number) but Smith Barrassi Sheedy are the great coach's. Its might be journo's don't like us so we never get the praise we deserve but I'm happy to say my club is workman like it show we have a dip more often then not.
