Anyone else get a phone call to see if you're keen for a run on Thursday night and a quick jaunt to Saudi Arabia?

Can't remember a time out squad has been so thin.

Plus I think Rogic got crunched and isn't Goodwin is a scratching?

Arnie has Covid and was apparently in breach of his quarantine.

Everything shaping up perfectly for 2 must win games 🙄.

Curtis Good called up to replace Kye Rowles (who has Covid).

Only to be denied by Melbourne City who claim he wasn’t on the initial list of 50 players given to the A League clubs who might be called up.

What a debacle.
No club should deny any player playing for his or hers country, what a disgrace by Melbourne City!

Wow, pretty speechless about this. What an abomination this week is turning in to

Here's the rub, keeping but the 2 x A League games scheduled this weekend. Its crap fixturing

Football Australia could have forced City’s hand, but with the club already having four players in the squad, a fifth call-up could have given the Patrick Kisnorbo-coached team the option of postponing its A-League match on Wednesday night against Brisbane Roar.

FA eventually settled on the 37-year-old Wilkinson, who was a member of Australia’s 2014 World Cup squad.

The squad is already missing central defensive rising star Harry Souttar who underwent surgery in December after an ACL tear.

“In accordance with FIFA requirements, and in support of the national team, Melbourne City FC have released four first choice players into the final Socceroos squad for the current international window,” Melbourne City told AAP.

“Football Australia, anticipating the impact of COVID-19, issued a larger than usual extended squad. The original list included seven Melbourne City FC players. However, Curtis Good was not included in that extended squad.

“Melbourne City play both Brisbane Roar and Macarthur FC during the window without four Socceroos players.

“This will be the second international window of the 21/22 season that the club played fixtures whilst releasing four players for national duty.”

Christian Volpato selected for Italy U20 squad. Arnold had the chance to select him, but doesn’t want to on the grounds of form. Right… so select any of A league over 30s, yet Volpato isn’t on the radar

Australia always backward whenever international fixtures are one. Sadly this is just another chapter in the sorry decade it has had
This is worse the stuff in the 90s. Clearly we have no number 1 priority - a healthy A League or WC qualifying. We're trying to do both but in reality we'll do neither.

Let’s not forget the A League fixture backlog caused by poor planning has also caused this. I agree City should have released him, but how on earth was he not in the original 50, and why are we playing A League games during an international break?

We are going to get what we deserve if we don’t qualify.

I was surprised he wasn't in the squad initially. It's not like we're rich with defenders.

They didn't pick him as they would have been told no more than 4 players from an A League team (keep the league rolling) - and in normal circumstances it probably wouldn't have mattered, but covid and injury has crippled the squad.

It's an absolute dumpster fire

Half the reason why Football in this country has gone to sh*t. Look at that squad. One of the Socceroo squads of all time.
Imagine an English club doing that, or a Brazilian club, or a club in just about any country?! Their fans would probably boycott.
