I don't know how many times I have to keep saying this.....

NOTHING compares to the son-of-a-bitch that is 'Battletoads'.

Another honourable NES mention...

Is that TMNT?

I used to have that as well, it contributed along with Battletoads in destroying my childhood due to frustration. :thumbsd:

left 4 dead on expert can be pretty saddistic at times.

Flat out impossible I reckon. That director's a mean SOB!

Ninja Gaiden is one I had to stop playing because of it's difficulty.

And dare I say it, although not impossible, who can forget Contol on 00 Agent? (don't even have to say the game)

A game that I found particularly challenging was F-Zero GX. F*** me... Story mode was such a pain in the ass. Managed to do all except chapter 7 on hard and did 1,2,3,5,6 on very hard. Great game, just rediculously hard later on :/

Resi Evil 4 on professional was a joke..I couldn't beat the initial village in the first chapter.

Expert on L4D isn't totally impossible. I finished Death Toll with just me and another guy on expert and 2 AI. It took a little while though.

Try winning Big Rigs without necking yourself...I DARE YOU

Hahaha! Never got past the level where you are on the hover-jetski thing... What happens once you get past there?

Interestingly, this article/list JUST came out a few days ago.

From the list, I can't really account for a lot TBH, apart from Battletoads(We all know about this one), Tetris(Well, DUH!), Portal(VERY good puzzles, so innovative that you basically didn't know how to complete them either), COD4(On the hardest difficulty this was murder, literally), the God of War series is a BIG YES, having only played the 1st and about 1/3 of the 2nd, the game sets the difficulty high from the outset(Even on normal), and once you've gotten towards then end it just starts to get insane, until that last conveyor belt thing in GoW1, which is just plainly stupid difficultly crazy insaneness(At least it would be on God difficulty).

TOP 25 HARDEST GAMES OF ALL TIME

Gaming difficulty is an interesting beast as it has really evolved over the years. Many gamers still hold to the fact that games of yesteryear were much harder than games on today’s consoles. But is that really true?
Obviously it all depends on who you ask. GameDaily has come up with their own list of the hardest games and series of all time. Though they mostly concentrate on franchises instead of one entry in a series. So I took a few liberties to add “series” like when they went with the original Battletoads (um, excuse me, but they’re ALL hard!).

Personally, I would’ve added a few games like the original Metroid, Mortal Kombat 3, Siren and Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for NES (Thanks logikil!) and Kid Icarus . . . I also think I’d exclude the arcade classics and maybe shooters, cause heck, a lot of shooters are hard. Then again, so are a lot of fighters. But I digress.

So what is your own personal list of the hardest games of all time?
Here is the list of the Top 25 Hardest Games of All Time:

25. Ice Climber (NES)
24. Viewtiful Joe (GameCube, PS2)
23. MDK 2
22. Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link (NES)
21. Metal Slug series
20. Tetris
19. Gauntlet 1
18. Portal
17. Bionic Commando series
16. Guitar Hero series (On Expert)
15. Shinobi (PS2)
14. F-Zero GX (GameCube)
13. Mushihimesama Futari
12. Doom (On Nightmare Difficulty)
11. Call of Duty 4 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
10. Contra series
09. Defender
08. Devil May Cry 3 (PS2)
07. God of War series (PS2)
06. R-Type series
05. Ikaruga (GameCube, Xbox Live Arcade)
04. Mega Man 9 (Xbox Live Arcade, WiiWare, PlayStation Network)
03. Battletoads series
02. Gouls N’ Ghosts series
01. Ninja Gaiden series

Bionic Commando?

I also have that game on NES it doesn't even compare to most of the games on that list.

Odd choice.

Although, back in the day, this was the goriest 16 bit cut scene ever.

Life Force on NES was nasty and Super Ghouls & Ghosts on SNES made me smash my controller. I'd also nominate Super Mario Kart Rainbow 150cc Cup as it downright cheated and Shinobi on Arcade. Shinobi got rediculously hard after about level 4. COD4 wasn't nearly as bad as those. Doom II on nightmare and Ikaruga on Expert are literally impossible.

what the hell is god of war doing in there?

like...on god mode it was pretty damn tough but devil may cry 3 is about 20 times harder...even on normal!
how could it possibly be ranked higher for difficulty!?!?

Ninja Gaiden is one I had to stop playing because of it's difficulty.

Generally when a game is as hard as Ninja Gaiden I'll simply stop playing it but it was just such an awesome game that I had to persist. I think in the end, the fact that it was so difficult made it so much more rewarding.
