Worst performance in a Grand final

In the 1984 QAFL grand final, a Dunstall-led Coorparoo belted those *****-eaters from Morningside, with Morningside only kicking their first goal on the stroke of 3/4 time. It was a pathetic performance by the Panthers ....

Lowest Granny score in a senior league.

Sept 9th 1905
North Adelaide 6.8 44
def
Port Adelaide 1.4 10

bang that out ya arse.

Ok, assuming I have this working right, I have 11928 / 3 grand finals to play with. 3,976 GFs.

Still got a bit of work to do ... I was thinking of just posting them all here and letting you blokes do the work ... but it won't fit in one post ...

Easily Port Adelaides 1.4 in 1905 (in the SANFL anyway) as the question is "Worst performance in a Grand final", not "Worst performance in a Grand Final in your lifetime".

Anyone who would vote for 1989 over 1905 (or 1952 for that matter) is either totally ignorant or extremely biased.

Norwood's effort in 1952 to lose by over 100pts in what was touted as a close grand final would probably be up there.

:)

Ok this will tell us the lowest and highest GF scores of those I have listed ... haven't yet tweaked it to search for biggest margins or percentile trouncings.

The program is up and running ... but is only up to 8 goals so far.

It runs through a list of GF results, starting by searching for 0.0.0, then 0.1.1, then 0.2.2, up to 0.50.50, then 1.0.6, 1.1.7 ... and will eventually look for any scores of 50.50.350. It will take a while :)

But, of course, I already have my 0.0.0 scores ready :

[ 0.0.0] - Grand Final - Buffaloes 1.0.6 defeated Waratahs 0.0.0 due to forfeit through protest.
[ 0.0.0] - 1914 - Bourke-Evelyn FL Grand Final : Mernda 0.5.5 defeated Arthurs Creek 0.0.0.

I s'pose the first one ain't much of a candidate, the match was called off as soon as the one team bothering to turn up scored.

So the BEFL score is the only full time score of 0.0.0 in a GF that I have listed.

... It's only up to 12.16.88 ... :(

That was the day North Adelaide took the field with one goal in mind ... I know, it's an old joke, but it's funny enough to be repeated. :D

Depends on whether you are looking at actual team scores, the margin or even % of total score kicked on the day to determine worst performance............they tell different stories when comparing these 2 GF's.

Exactly, hence my mention of the 1952 GF.

Which is exactly why us clever humans invented books, historical records and even computers. So when someone asks a question relating to the entire history of the game we can look it up and the real clever of us can read them and interpret them. I'll bring some down to Alberton tomorrow and try and teach a couple of the locals to use them.
:)

Worst GF loss has to be...

1970 - COLLINGWOOD vs Carlton.

The greatest choke of all time.

It's one thing to get completely belted, but I think its far worse to be in control of a game and then throw it away like the Pies did.

No correspondance shall be entered.
