Sitting at 1-7, we all know we're going to improve when we get a few players back, but is the damage done?

The worst possible result is we win more than 5.5 games but less than 12-13 to make the finals. Look whats happened to Hawthorn after finishing 10th 2 years in a row. Mediocre picks can't really improve, pretty ordinary looking list.

To make the finals we need to win 11 or 12 from 15 and I just can't see us doing that. But I'm sure we'll rally and win say 7 or 8 of 15. (again very Hawthorn 2003 like). This leaves us in pergatory.

Personally I hope we're more Melbourne like (second last would be ideal, not the spoon but a couple of first round picks), pick up Travis as a steal under F/S, get everyone fit (especially Davidson) and have a real go in 2006.

Thoughts?

Far from it if you take the time to read what I wrote. I believe we will win more than we lose from here.

Just highlighting the failings of the current system and the disproprtionate benefits you can get for being ordinary.

I think this situation should be avoided at all costs.

In ten years time I want us to be a side that is always in and around the finals, as MM took west coast through that decade in the 90's.

Their are two ways to earn respect. 1 is to win a premiership, and the other is to be a side that is always a thought to be in the finals. It's a great rush for that year or two when you get early picks and the team starts playing well after a few bad seasons, as St kilda are going through. But what happens in a few years when all the contracts are up for renewal. You dont keep them and then you find yourself back down the bottom of the ladder.

The thing to do these days is to get a strong core of players that you know that are not going anywhere. Treat them well and they wont care what they get paid, then fill the rest of the side with kids that have a red hot go, you dont need ten champion kids. You just need kids that are willing to have a go.

i dont think ne team with be under 5.5 wins this year ... the spoon will prolly be won by a team on 6-7 wins.

the dogs, hawkes, adelaide will all win their share of matches.

the only team possibly that could be under 5.5 wins is the pies ... dont think that would happen. we;ll wait and see.

The second worst senario is we are crap and we finish last. The worst senario is we aren't crap but we finish last because we thing tanking is acceptable because we are stupid enough to think a couple of early draft picks will make much difference in the time we have Buckley and Burns to lead our midfield. I hate the concept of tanking anyway but right now it is the biggest example of false economy I can imagine. We get pick 1 & 2 if we are worse than everyone else and in a couple of years Buckley and Burns are gone and we are back where we started. I would much rather see the youth getting better and winning and carrying us to the finals with the senior players in the comback from hell. Now maybe we can't make the finals but I hope our club and our team have the attitude they will fight for every minute iof every game every season. Who knows what we might win with that attitude. The only way any of our players will have any trade value is if they start winning games for us. At the end of this season we need to trade some midfield overflow for draft picks. If we don't win many games we can forget getting anything for the likes of Woewodin and O'Bree let alone any of the younger ones.
