What a performance by the dees. I am a huge doggies man but I was thrilled to see the dees play so well. Your young players like Grimes, Morton, Cheney etc will be stars in the future. Your side showed today that they have a very bright future and will be tough to beat. The thing that killed you was the over kill of the handball, but your side took it to us and took a chance and really were unlucky not to win. I loved the game, I thought it was entertaining, good umpiring despitge what you think of the aker call, (Robbos 2 dives resulting in goals), 2 sides really going at it. You should all be very proud of your club today and I am sure you are. Hoping you have 11 more honourable losses for your sake ;). The dees are on the up and looking forward to many more tough games between the 2 sides.

All the best. :thumbsu:

Robbos 2 dives resulting in goals

Two rancid decisions, but to be fair I'd say the second one was just falling over in the contest rather than a dive.

Both were just as bad as the one that got the dogs got in the last quarter. Then to pay a 50 metre was terrible. Sylvia obviously had no way of knowing it was a dogs free kick so it should have been an immediate 50m or none at all. To suddenly pay it after giving into the player pressure was gutless.

Oh, and Sylvia being tackled whilst on the ground? Not allowed to go for the ball?

Disgusting performance by the umpires today. Sure, they sucked both ways. It was comical. There should be some droppings this week if the AFL had any balls.

The umpires seemed to be completely unwilling to pay holding the man frees today. Maric getting clotheslined without the ball in full view of the umpire took the cake.

Robbos goal in the 3rd, the Boyd goal in the last and Sylvia's non-free were a joke.

Bails should go see Gieschen about it, Eade could as well, it was horrible.

Some absolute shit umpiring today that went both ways and everyone one of them resulted in goals.

Robbo's 1st hands in the back free kick - He dived.

Robbo's 2nd hands in the back free kick - He was in the air, did not dive and was not touched let alone pushed but it was funny watching the replay and seeing absolutely no contact to Robertson whatsoever.

The raping of Colin Sylvia on the ground on the wing - Being held while trying to get up, ball turned over as a result which ended up being a goal.

The holding of Dunn on our defensive 50 which wasn't paid and kept him out of the contest which again resulted in a goal.

The free and 50m penalty on Cale Morton - Didn't make contact with Johnson(?) and then every player on the ground continuing to play on and the umpire decides to pay 50.

Drop them all, they deserved to be belted for the shit umpiring they dished up. If any player from that game gets penalised for "making contact with an umpire" their defence should be "he's lucky I didn't belt him for the shit umpiring he dished up" then back it up with the footage of the 5 above listed incidents.

To be fair though that is the rule. If the player kicks the goal after the free kick has been paid in the other direction, and the kick wasn't quick enough to be counted as a clearing kick or disposal in motion, then it should be, and always is a 50m penalty.

Only if the player is adjudged to have heard the whistle.

Everyone had played on, common sense needed to prevail. None of the rules are as black and white as the AFL would like them to be, nor should they be.

Actually, it wasn't correct logic by the umpire. He initially didn't pay the 50 because he thought that the Melbourne players didn't know that a free had been paid. The play then went on and the Melbourne player (Sylvia) was much further away and had no chance of knowing and then suddenly, the umpire decided that it was 50.

It should have been 50 immediately after the first Melbourne kick or not at all.

I was at the game at it was great to watch, 19 goals in the first half is that a record for the season???

Great chance for a win against the Hawks i feel if we play like we did today. :thumbsu:

Congratulations on the performance yesterday. I know there will be many of you that are still nonetheless disappointed, but really that was a much improved effort. There is light at the end of the tunnel. :thumbsu:

Regarding next week.....dare to dream men! ;):thumbsu:

Agree with that yet the only thing I think everyone's wrong on is the 50m penalty, the free kick to Boyd (?) itself shouldnt have been paid yet when the whistle blew and we continued to run down the members wing and continued... and continued the umpire had no choice. I sat there cringing as Dunn or Sylvia (?) kept going and going.

The Robertson one I was embarassed at, was over the other side so didn't see the Sylvia one late in the game but one I havent heard spoke of was in the 3rd quarter where Welsh(?) took the ball on the 50 and was either paid the mark or a free kick yet the ball had spilt, whistle blew, our guys stopped, umps payed advantage on they went inside 50.

While the umpiring mistakes are maddening enough as they are, the most infuriating thing for me is how every game there seems to be different interpretations of some of the rules. All we ask for is 'consistency' in the way that the rules are enforced, and this is something the umpires have never been able to get right from one week to the next, so far as I can remember...
