Is the primary difference that, while xbox is better in this area, you have to pay to play all games online, while you can play all for free with the ps3? How is xbox's service better?
Cheers

Better infrastructure. More free downloadable stuff. More ongoing updates for multiplayer games. Ect...

The annual $70 or so a year pays for these features. - Not just to play games online, but to improve the online experience.

There is no doubt that 360's online is better due to the fact they can commit themselves to something like that (ie making you play for it) and more experience ie the xbox online years.

the PS3 does occasionally have some online problems but they are very rare. Some games lag, most don't so yeah...

PS3 offers just the basis, which is all I need. 360 offers more which is nice to have...

Free. The whole of playstation 3 online will be centralized on Home. Google playstation home mate, it's looking pretty awesome.
cool sounds awesome, will be getting a ps3 this weekend. How do you get it online? I have wireless broadband at home, does the ps3 have a wireless compontent/receiver that will allow connection?

Will need a wireless router for that I believe... Would get receivers in the router box.

Yes, provided you have a wireless network setup in your house. Let me know when you get online, im always up for new online gaming mates.

If you were to go online on the xbox 360 with a wireless connection, you would need to purchase a wireless antenna for the xbox which would run you about $150. Then you need to fork out more money for a subscription for 12 months to xbox live. The ps3 has wireless functionality built in and doesnt charge to use its network.

I just grabbed a PS3 myself and I'm keen to get online for a few games here and there, maybe next week or something.
On another thread, Zarko mentioned there was already the ethernet connector with the system... do you just plug your phone line into the back of the ps3 or something? I have a pretty huge extension cord for my phone line (no idea why i got one so long but it could come in very handy).

All you need to go online with the PS3 is the black Ethernet Cable that came with your PS3, you plug one end into your PS3, and the other goes into your modem/router, it shouldn't be too hard to set up, just see which one connects to your modem.:thumbsu:

i got a black ethernet cable with my ps3.

You don't need to use that one either.

Any Cat 5(or 6) cable will work. the one that comes with the ps3 is cat 6 if i remember correctly.
Yeah, I didn't mean that he had to use that, but it comes with it so it is easier.
