Xenophobia

Why is it when the Age publishes xenophobic articles from a victorian perspective, like how it is all victorians nightmare to have an all interstate grand final, it is easily dismissed by all here as being crap, yet when they print stuff about SAlians that doesn't reflect what we think, it is entirely believable?

An all interstate grand final would simply be boring for Vics. No conspircay theories are ever mentioned. Theres a slight difference.

What, you don't think Collingwood v Essendon (or Hawthorn v North or whatever combination) might be a bit boring for anyone from outside Vic?

They're never *that* interesting unless you follow one of the teams.

Did I say it wouldnt be???? This thread is not about what each state finds boring its about paranoid 'anti home state' bullshi.t conspiracy theories, which funnily enough seem to eminate from SA more than anywhere else. Just coincidence i guess.

Particularly in South Australia, where eyebrows have been raised at the AFL scheduling all non-Victorian clubs to play each other in the opening round of the knockout pre-season cup.

Talkback radio has been bombarded by cynical callers suggesting a deliberate AFL ploy to reduce the chances of the pre-season cup being won by a non-Victorian club.

It also guarantees 3 non-Victorian clubs go through to the 2nd round. If they're looking to kill off the non-Victorian chances it seems a strange way to do it.
Of course the SA and WA derby matches are about maximising the crowds. And there's nothing wrong with that.

The Wizard Cup is boring. No matter who plays in the GF. The only conspiracy here is one to save airfares on an irrelevant competition.

example - If your an essendon fan , a richmond v melbourne grand final would be just as boring as a brisbane v adelaide grand final. Who cares what state they are from , they are both not your teams. I am an essendon fan but I think it would be just great to see 2 interstate teams in a grand final or even better, port v adelaide. The look on some victorians face would be priceless.

Hotel and Motel proprietors?
Businesses of Ballarat?
Petrol station owners on the Western Highway?

I reckon a Port-Crows granny would be huge!!

Good Point.
It would easily be the biggest sporting event in the history of SA, and we thought the crows winning a flag was big .............

Too right. Interstate rivalry died for Victorians in 1992 when WCE won the flag. It probably died for WA's in 1995 with Freo's inclusion, and in 1997 in SA with Ports inclusion.
Nobody cares who wins the flag or from where. If your side is not in the GF, who it doesnt't matter.
I supported the Lions in last years GF, not because I hate Collingwood, but I just enjoyed seeing the look on fat Ed's face as the side went down (not to mentions super coach and his embarrassing blubbing). The year before i supported Essendon for no other reason than I liked their team that year.

If Freo played Brisbane next year i would support Freo, just because they haven't won one before.
Geography is a mindset only in newspapers. We have had time enough to get used to it by now.
