What happens if EFL clubs vote against the move? Do Football Victoria have the final say? If Silvan end up staying in the YVMDFL in 2010 it will be interesting going to some of their games. I can hear some of the comments flowing over the fence already!

EFL clubs voted against introducing Heidelberg so it didn't happen. I suspect FV would steer well clear unless they absolutely had to get involved - a straightforward swap between leagues would normally be left to the leagues involved.

If for example the EFL clubs didn't want Silvan - and the YVMDFL board didn't want to lose the club, from FV's perspective there would be no issue to adjudicate on.

Are there previous cases of a VCFL team moving to metro or vice versa?

EFL Div 4 currently has a bye that no club in the division would want to keep so I would suggest they will get the numbers in the vote and make the division an even 12 teams. Heidelberg were looking to come straight into Div1 which would have raised a few issues with the clubs in the division. It was a different situation.

There are many reasons why Silvan is looking at going to the EFL Monniehawk, some im not prepared to put up on the forum at this time, and as i have said the club has been looking at moving to the EFL for some time, the main reason is the recruiting & travel factor, most of our list live between Silvan & Croydon, not many live out towards Woori, whether we like it or not the travel factor is becoming a real issue, 80% of players who have left Silvan in the last 5 years have gone to the EFL & they've gone to all Divvys, so the standard is not really a factor, its because its close to home , you just gotta look at how many ex YVMDFL players will run out with Chirnside this week, they're got blokes from Silvan,Woori,Healsville,Warby,Mt eve just to name a few, while the travel is not such a big deal for people who have been in the valley for years its a major issue for young blokes coming through now, if you try and recruit a player that works Sat morning & lives in Croydon & tell him we play at Healsville, Warby, Gembrook, Alex, etc your probably not going to recruit him, but if we tell him we play The Basin,Kilsyth,Chirnside,Heathmont etc & the furthest he has to drive is Silvan he's more likely to come across. While there are many great people & clubs in the YVMDFL & it will be sad to lose that Monnie but the club has got to come 1st, and to what we believe will secure the long term future of the Silvan FC

So the Dale brothers would still be at Silvan if you were in the EFL? Is that the spin you're trying to put on this? How many of the top 10 on your list who have played much higher levels of football than 4th div EFL are going to stay on? Perhaps the club has burnt a few bridges in terms of recruiting local players and sees this as the only opportunity to survive. How bout you change your name to the Burleigh Slugs, design a new jumper and things will be as good as new.

Thanks for all the feed back there guys, will take it on board, oh & Walshsy41 maybe you should join our committee & see the clubs finances hardly been miss managed let me tell you.

Yes, but if there were any special exemptions applied, I think they would be from ex Benalla clubs joining EFL (or other comps) - not an existing YVMDFL team trying to move. At the end of the day, Silvan isn't homeless so there isn't a pressing need to find them a comp unlike the Benalla teams.

From what I've been able to gather, it's starting to appear that Silvan really want to move leagues so they don't have to travel so far and I don't think that would fall into a special consideration category.

Wouldn't O&K be more appealing for Bonnie Doon? Or merging with Yea?

Pretty sure the YVMDFL would be Bonnie Doon preference as they would play 3 sides (presuming Alex come back to divvy 2) that aren't that far away (still 50+kms - which is further than what Silvan would travel to any game in Divvy 1 except Alex).
As for a merger with Yea that wouldn't/couldn't happen the two towns are about 56kms apart and have no real link

For a number of reasons this makes me sad & upset with Silvans decison. As with Monnyhawk I feel a little betrayed. What makes me the most upset & pissed off with Silvan & Sth is we understand the problems you guys are facing & many other clubs in the league.
But What Serious reccomendations have you guys put to our league officials to improve it & solve these problems that many clubs face?
Are we confronting the problem head on for the bettermeant of the game in our area or our own personal gain?

Catzz & Catpower the motivation 5-6 years ago is different to now. Then maybe to play in a premier comp in the highest division for the showcase, now its for survival...
I respect the hardwork of certain people at Silvan have done over the last 10 yrs but I would have loved to have seen some of that innovative thinking (that the cats have lead in) help create a viable future for our league - which includes Silvan

After reading through Silvans motives again for wanting to go to the EFL it seems that Travel is the overwhelming factor. I'm starting to think that we might apply for the EFL as 70% of our players come from Ringwood, Lilydale and those areas
Done a bit of research last night into the travel factor and done a few sums

Silvan - avg distance to games this season - 26km (includes alex)
- avg distance in EFL divvy 4 next year - 25.6 km
As we can see there is hardly any difference and if the winner of divvy 2 goes up and alex go down the travel factor will decrease alot further

If olinda win avg dist to game - 16kms
If Kinglake win avg dist to game - 20kms

Not too much travelling at all there considering Thornton's avg dist to a game is 90km

Think its a bit rough to lable South in with Silvan. They did try to suggest numerous alternatives over several years while still in the comp but were basically told to stop complaining.

Maybe the fact they left has allowed those in charge of the league & other clubs to realise there are serious issues & to now seriously look at other options & to think outside the square a bit to ensure the league survives

Why did they abstain from voting when a proposal was put forward for divisional structures - that surely would have suited them better or did they have another agenda????
What were their suggestions, I am yet to hear any?

Pretty sure they put the geographical divisions on the table initially - well before the Goodie/Gembrook concept several years later , voted for it every time except when they had already given the YVMDFL notice they intended to leave & obstained from that vote for obvious reasons

The Woori ground looked ok this morning as i drove past, but i saw a man with a flat nose, chubby belly and a mostashe walking over it. It looked like he is the local curator, may even be a grass whisperer it seemed he was talking too and patting the grass in the centre circle. Can someone pick up Moin and Catpower this weekend, we know the dramas earlier on in the year and we dont want them to miss out.:D

Ok, thanks for clearing that up Cletus.

But, I did get a PM saying that they were considering it (both at a playing & committee level), if they were to continue like they are in the NFL.

The fees in the NFL are very high compared to the YVMDFL, and Kinglake would love to have Panton Hill back again (and I'm sure that the YVMDFL would as well, because they would prefer Panton Hill than Bonnie Doon), but I would thin that the travel would be the only thing that would prevent them from going back again.

We'll have to wait and see, but after what I got, they might be back.

silvan are going and good luck to them.Have heard that YVMDFL board havn't even bothered to contact the club to see if this is true Seem's like YVMDFL arn't bothered if they go

When you "listen" to things, just make sure they are correct! I know Board members who have spoken to Silvan reps. Unfortunately, some Board members felt disappointment about how Silvan had kept the Board out of the issue until after the Cats' decision was made.

If both Upwey and Olinda happen to win all grand final's in their respective divisions, will that be the first time all 6 premierships on offer have been shared by 2 clubs?

Ok fine, but still think its sad these clubs dont think of the competition & football improvement in our area in general.

I just had a quick look on the YVMDFL web site and cannot see all 3 being won by one club in Divvy 1 or 2 ever (maybe a bit blind however) - so it would be a first, but cannot see it happening,

Get your fact's right YVMDFL board were informed that Silvan were in discussions with EFL regarding possible move well before club voted to move .If they felt dissapointed i'm sure any league would have organised to have a meeting to discuss any issuse's(never happened)

the leauge must think very hard on this decision concerning teams from up the line i know of at least ten blokes "young blokes 19/22year olds have said they either wont play because of the travel or will
1@work
2 play efl which is a lot closer
3 give footy away
number 3 would be sad not only for the players but the clubs involved
