YOU - PADDY , MACRAE , MITCHELL , ADAMS total points - 10196

That's 1772 points thrown away.
Trading McGovern out and not Shaw was crucial.
Trading Ward out at his bye instead of Priddis cost me too

Final 2017 Rank: 1,392 (2016 rank: 2,485)

Season High Rank: 160 after round 2 (Never got lower than 5,000 from memory)

Total Points: 50,313 (Average score: 2,188)

Team Value: $13,446,300

Players that went the distance: 12... Adams, Laird, Tuohy, Danger, Titch, Bont, Fyfe, Stef, Strnadica, Higgins, Nank & Dahlhaus.

Never Again: Scott "The Trap" Selwood & David "The Spud" Myers... Very tempted to add Tom "Richard Lounder" Lynch & Jake "Vanilla" Lloyd to the list.

Biggest Regrets: Panicking a little & wasting trades during the byes just to hold rank.
: Taking a risk on Tom Lynch when I thought he had reached his lowest price - before he pumped out 2 successive scores of 39!
: Not checking the late changes in the Swans vs Kangas game and having Newman's 150 odd stranded on the bench!
: I'd almost add trading in Sloane at his highest price point, but he came good towards the end of the season and made up for his mid-season crapness.

Best Moves: Resisting the urge to trade in Pendles a couple of times when he significantly dropped in price.
: Spending the extra $$$ on Kreuz instead of the cut-price Gawn.
: VCíng Danger every week except his bye & suspension weeks.

Went from 2000 to 9000 in the last three weeks, just had too many outs and needed to save another two trades.

Good not super common starting picks: Mitchell, Ryder, Macrae
Bad starting picks: Hannebery

Best trade: Martin upgrade when he was averaging 105 or something in round 7.
Worst trade: Simpson to Riewoldt after Simpson scored his two lowest scores in 18 months.

Take in 2018: Don't get greedy with luxury trades like trading out Nank and Shaw. Not touching unproven picks, forget it. Lloyd was a rookie after I picked him up.

It was a fun season, just mismanaged towards the end and went for cheap rookies over the mature age (Witts, WHE) which cost me early season trades.

NEVER AGAIN -

SUMMARY

Biggest Regrets:
Panicking a little & wasting trades during the byes just to hold rank. (And maybe not just taking a one round hit when I should have for the greater good)
: Taking a risk on Tom Lynch at the start of the season. Broke my no KPF rule!
: Breaking my no KPF rule again with JJK. Missed him during his bye, then the achilles. Thanks flog.
: Jarrod Harbrow.
: Sucked in thinking I could make some quick bucks from Matera.
: My team not saving on the Saturday in Rd 1, and was forced to trade in Oliver and Hannan. Burns me that I thought I had them and had to waste a trade on them both. I'm still counting #myboiclarrie in my "went the distances" though.
: Breaking my pledge that I wouldn't go early on cash cows. Missed SERIOUS dollars on Stewart, Taranto, Hannan and WHE. AND I MEAN MEGA DOLLARS, WENT WAY EARLY ON THEM ALL.
: Jarrod ****ing Harbrow.
: Vardy over Witts Rd1. That probably stung the most. Especially when it meant I went Horlin-Smith and bank over Marc Murphy. GHS made me $115, so that was nice, but nothing like would've happened had I grabbed Murphy and upgraded him to Dusty at R11.
: Not trusting my gut and picking Dahl Rd 1 over Macrae. Same with Treloar over Dusty.
: Jarrod mother ****ing Harbrow.

Best Moves: Resisting the urge to trade in Pendles a couple of times when he significantly dropped in price.
: Kreuze after his bye.
: Ryder after his bye.
: #myboiclarrie
: The $150k 90 point average I got out of Zak Jones before I ninja'd his perfect execution from my side. Nailed that one.
: Making the call in after Rd 20 of Kelly over Neale. Couldn't have gone worse if I'd picked Neale.
: Holding Fyfe for his injury.
: Holding Beams for his 2 injuries.

So, yeah, good lesson is to never give up, always try to have an escape plan down the track. Couple of times I thought my side was completely shot, little niggly injuries and lack of form for a few guys, very low on trades the whole way through, but stuck firm to my escape plan and got a very decent rank in the end.

Highlights:
: Won my cash league (ranked 325 which would've been higher bar 1 spud. Had he done as well as the bloke in second last we'd have been top 150), and won BigFooty Div 11 (ranked 820 overall).
: The 2731 in Rd 22 was fun. Had never cracked 2450 before.

Final Rank - 101.

Regrets - Taking Merrett over a Mitchell. Choosing Ablett jr (and putting the C on him in China). Not having the C on Danger when he got 196. Taking a punt on Angus Brayshaw only for him to not play.

Success - Too many to mention. I started with an absolute rubbish team. The fact I finished 101 was largely due to good luck, and not shrewd trading. Starting with Clayton Oliver and Josh Kelly meant that I basically started with 2 cheap premium players. Marc Murphy was a good get early in the season, and Kade Simpson was a solid player down back all year.

Bring on next year.

Final Rank: 2,799

Highest season rank: 2,799 (round 23)
Lowest season rank: 36,351 (round 1 - had a shocker)

Never f***ing again: Bont, Lynch (GC), Heppell, Dahlhaus, Pendlebury

Went the distance: Macrae, Dahl, Higgins, Ryder, Treloar, T. Mitchell, Lloyd, Adams, Laird

Hits:
- Starting T. Mitchell
- Starting Ryder
- Starting Adams
- Trading in Greenwood when he got named and put up a ton in round 9 to get me 31st for the week
- Trading in Kelly for finals, helping me win my cash league
- Trading in Heeney early on

Misses:
- Starting Pendles
- Starting and holding Treloar all season
- Starting Higgins...again
- Trading in Bont at round 8 for 605k
- Trading out Fyfe at round 13
- Trading in T. Lynch (although he was mainly used as E loophole)
- Trading in Heppell in round 3 and holding for season
- Trading in Roberton just before he turned to sh*t
- Removing Kelly from my team before round 1
- Holding Nank for too long

Feel like I have to mention Bontempelli again, you burnt me something stupid you pr*ck. And your coach can GAGF for sticking you in the forward line when I brought you in as a MIDFIELDER.

F*** you again Treloar, and your captain too the weak prick.

FWD: Macrae, Franklin, Dahlhaus, Roughead, Heeney, Yeo (Eddy, Bayok)

Never f***ing again: Dahlhaus, O'Meara, Shaw, Sandilands. Bont and Treloar on thin ice.

Went the distance: Roughead, Dahlhaus, Adams, Franklin, Dangerfield, Shaw, Fyfe, Laird, Eddy, Strnadica

Hits:
- Adams
- Fyfe and Rough getting me over the line in a few finals.
- Ryder's second half of the year
- Danger's captain consistency
- Won my main cash league
- Had 1 trade up my sleeve that I didn't need to use

Misses:
- Starting Dahl over Macrae
- Starting Treloar
- Starting Sandilands and Gawn
- H Shaw

Total Score 49,898 (Top 2%)
Season Rank 3,653

Final team value $13,037,900

I didn't do too badly considering I was all out of trades just before SC finals, a slide on my 2016 rank which was Top 1,000.

Definitely created my little list of "never agains" along the way for season 2018, FYI that list is Captained by Heath Shaw

R: Kreuzer, Darcy, Strndica
F: Franklin, Macrae, Dahlhaus, Greene, Yeo, Heeney, Greenwood, Balic

Never again: Dahlhaus, Bontempelli

Positives & Hits:
- I went right out of the gates at the start of the season, stayed within the top 1000 for two consecutive weeks in round 2 and 3, all thanks to the mid-price madness (Steele, WHE, Marchbank, Witts, Sandi etc)
- Made 2/3 GF, but unfortunately I lost both of them
- Keeping Fyfe
- Won the Round 14 MND Challenge and got a sexy medal. Highlight of my season.

Negatives & Misses:
- I burned through my trades too early. I couldn't even field a full team in 3 of the last 5 weeks, and despite that I still made the GF in 2/3 leagues
- Bye rounds really screwed me over, big time. I didn't manage them very well
- Believing that Bontempelli and Dahlhaus were going to fulfil my hopes and dreams

My starting team was TERRIBLE. I thought my trading was pretty good overall, but there was just no coming back.

Another shit season :(

Highest Season Rank: 22,699 (Rd1)
Lowest Season Rank: 321 (Rd14)
Final team:
Defenders: Docherty, Adams, Laird, Tuohy, Ryan, Witherden, Newman, J Smith
Mids: Dangerfield, Kelly, Merrett, Murphy, Kennedy, Whitfield, Wines, LLoyd, Greenwood, Delucca, Cousins
Rucks: Martin, Goldstein, Strnadica
Forwards: Macrae, Yeo, Ryder, Billings, Heeney, Greene, Dahlhaus, Parsons

Highlight:
In top 1800 from Rounds 3-18, (6 weeks in top 1000)
Regrets: Biggest is sideways trade of Titch to Murphy after round 4. 361 point season deficit plus a trade

Overall I'm happy. First time I've ever been in top 10,000 at any stage. Traded hard from early on because of my fast start. Last trade was Rd18 but I was lucky despite holding Toby and JPK. My slow death at the end was a general misfiring of my team. Goldy, Newman, Ryan totaling 88 between them Rd21 was a bummer.

Regrets: Biggest is sideways trade of Titch to Murphy after round 4. 361 point season deficit plus a trade

There it is kids, proof that you should never sideways a premo, drink and SC, go full ****** etc etc.

2017 was my best start to a SC season ever, yet ended up being my worst SC season ever lol.
After round two I was sitting at 4,267th and it never got any better than that :'(
Finished up at 11,876 overall.

Starting Team:
DEF
: Laird, Howe, 2e, Stewart, Hampton, Otten (Smith, Hibberd)
MID: Danger, TMitch, Fyfe, Treloar, Rocky, Pendles, Beams, SPP (Barrett, Parfitt, Pickett)
RUCK: Gawn, Sandi (Strnadica)
FWD: Nank, Dahl
, NRoo, Butler, Simpkin, Taranto (Eddy, Cameron)
*Bold denotes keeper.

Having stinker rookies and bad trading really killed me this year.

The Good:
- TMitch
- Not picking Shaw
- Winning a game against a mate because I went very early on Greenwood and he belted out a tonne.

The Bad:
- NRoo dying round 2, then coming back 2 weeks later
- Treloar
- Not starting with Marchbank and WHE and scrambling to get them in early
- Not getting Witts
- Not starting with Dusty for the first time ever.
- Not starting with Docherty because I was adamant he'd drop in price and I'd pick him up after his bye.
- Docherty never dropping in price.
- Using my last trade to get Docherty in (Round 19 @ 632k).
- Paying 632k for a chip scab flanker that couldn't even average 100 for me.
- Holding Rocky after his injury, was averaging 123 at the time. Scored 1 tonne for the rest of the year.
- Paying 600k+ for Bontempelli
- Being one of the most prominent posters on the 2018 planning thread

The Ugly:
- Taylor ****ing Adams. Refused to pick the campaigner because he is made of crate paper and averaged 15 games a year. Of course this campaigner with a bung lid plays 22 this year. Can't wait for next year with him being a mid only, no campaigner picking him, and seeing him miss at least 7 games. He also has a shit lid.
- Rucks. I don't recall ever having a DPP ruckman for cover before and after last year having my only donut for the year thanks to Goldy missing a game I made sure to take one to avoid that happening again. This year I started with Gawn, Sandi and Nank (fwd). Round 3, Gawn died, I traded him to Spencer. Round 5, Spencer died, I traded him to Balic and swung Nank into the rucks. Round 7, Nank was suspended, DONUT. Round 10 I trade upgrade rookies to Goldy and swing Nank back into the forwards. Round 11 I trade a dead Sandi out for Grundy. Goldy goes alright for a while then becomes a shit truck and gets dropped so I trade him to Ryder in round 18 (Banged on about Ryder being a good pick all pre-season then didn't ****ing pick him) also got Selwood this week yay:rolleyes:), run out of trades round 19. Round 20 Grundy gets suspended for 2 weeks, so Nank goes back into the ruck, then Tom ****ing Lynch is ruled out for the year and I munch on 2 MORE ****ING RUCK DONUTS.
- For the last 5 years i've also play Draft with a bunch of mates, every year I try make my draft team as similar as possible to my regular team so I don't have to track a heap of extra players. For example in 2014 I had Selwood, Libba, Parker, Gray in both. 2015 I had Neale, Lids, Docherty, Goldy. 2016 I had Docherty again, ZMerrett and Gaz.
This year I had JKelly, Oliver and Macrae in my draft team and started with NONE of them and only ever got Macrae into my regular team :'(

TL;DR

Tom Mitchell was the only thing I got right this year, this game is a lot more fun when your team isn't hot garbage.
You are all campaigners, I'm gonna come 1st next year AND win the MND round.
Thanks for having me.
Go Tiges.

Lots of love,
Seymour Skinner.

This is more telling though (pure schizophrenia):

nmv0f3O.png

Dropped 1200 spots in the last two weeks (1400 over the last three) playing only 21 players and with Selwood stuck on the bench. Got Heath Shaw and Luke Ryan on field in the wrong two weeks too.

This was the first year I ever managed a Supercoach team over an entire season though. In the past, I'd lose interest before the byes (split round). Pretty happy with the results, think I did pretty well until the wheels came off at the end there. Definitely learnt not to trade so aggressively at the start of the year, not just because it's so easy to get railroaded with one injury but because once you have no trades left, the game becomes a lot less fun (all I am doing for the last 5/6 rounds was making sure Dangerfield was captain or looped properly).

Good:

- Dangerfield. Look, I don't care if he is annoying. I don't care if he's being scored more than he truly deserves. The man is a dynamo and super consistent and never gave me strife. 12 scores of 140 in the last 12 games too is marvellous.

- Docherty. He died in the arse-end of the season when it mattered most but for a while there he was incredible to own.

- Kreuzer. Didn't trade him in until after the bye week, but as an upgrade from Nank, he was truly the best trade I made all year.

- Oliver. Oink oink.

- Kelly. Was the only original player I started with and I intended to trade him early. Lol. I would pay Kelly $13m for the year he gave my Supercoach alone, never mind his real-world value.

- Ryder. Not a huge season but good enough for me. I traded him in for super-sly bye week cover, and he failed miserably during that period, but he averaged 113.8 over the last 11 rounds and was really fantastic to own for the back half of the year.

- Adams. Tay-Tay's season was in three parts but his slump was short and his final stretch of scores was handy.

Bad (mixed):

- Sloane. His inability to shed a tag for about two months from the exact moment I decided to trade him in was the most aggravating part of the yer for me (traded him in instead of Dusty in a last-second change of heart, argggh!), however, he put up some massive scores at the tail-end of the season and that was truly inspiring (169, 151, 140).

- Fyfe. Started with him, dumped him before he lost value, then was forced to pick him back up again at a discount just as he recaptured his prime form again. A real rollercoaster but so good when it counted.

- Bont. Just **** him, even he was scoring 120s, such a tease.

- Laird. Was more yo than yo.

- Gawn. Disappointing.

Ugly:

- Treloar. Lol. Started him over and Tom Mitchell and I still want to kill myself (didn't pay attention to players I didn't have but it was hard to ignore Mitchell's scores every week, **** he was good).

- HeAtH sHaW. **** him.

- the fact that I traded in both Nick Riewoldt and JJ Kennedy before they got injured. God.

- Heath Shaw.

- Tom Lynch. The reason I'll never start another key position player.

- Heath Shaw. Oh my God, please just die already.

Shout out to Macrae, Heeney and Yeo who were all handy forwards, and I only regret not starting one of them and trading another in earlier.

Anyone work out who did better R3 onwards out of Murphy and Hanners?

I'll post a more detailed analysis when I'm procrastinating another time but I went backwards from top 500 to 15,000th this year.

One thing I've learnt is to trust my gut.

Had Titch, Kelly and Roberton in my team about a week before Round 1.

Swapped them to Treloar, Beams and Shaw.

In terms of a final rank... Let's just say...
IMG_2696.GIF

Positives:
- Docherty, Dangerfield, Z. Merrett... That's about it...

Negatives:
- The rest of my team
- My Rucks... Started okay with Ryder/Sandilands, didn't have any cover, Ryder was going okay (70/80s) so when he got suspended for a week I was like I wanna get rid of you, then traded him to Preuss who had started the season okay but it was mostly for the extra $$$, few weeks later Preuss gets dropped, I trade him to Jake Spencer, Spencer gets injured, traded Spencer to Mumford, good trade after wasting trades before that, then Sandi gets injured, trade him to Stef Martin, final duo was Mummy/Stef, only took me 4-5 trades...

What I've learned going into 2018:
- Don't try and pick too many mid-pricers who you think will breakout, stick to players who are already premos.
- Don't pick too many players coming back from long injuries, especially if they are over $250K (Thurlow, O'Meara, Swallow, Beams). The risk isn't as big if you're picking players at rookie price coming back from injuries. In 2018 I'll be looking at Nic Nat coming back from injury, otherwise mostly rookie-priced players like Gregson/Ahern.
- Have Ruck cover.
- Stick with rookies for longer, unless they're injured, they can bounce back.
- Win the $50K.

Best season so far. First time I haven't had to climb from high five or six figure beginnings.
Best season rank: 1132 rd 16
Worst season rank: 15668 rd 4
Final season rank: 2654

Did alright avoiding some of the premo pitfalls in Pendles, Shaw, Rocky. Got caught by some of the others in Sloane, Dahl, Bont.
Starters who stayed:
Laird, Tuohy, Mitch Hibberd
Danger, Zorko, Watson, Bont
Darcy Cameron
Nank, Dahl

Bad trades:
Sloane at top dollar, Heppell in for Roo early, Balic, Harbrow, Gawn in rd 21, moving too early on a lot of my rookies.

Good trades:
Murph rd 3, Kreuzer rd 12, Adams & Yeo rd 5.

Regrets:
Not starting with Doc and Macrae, not getting Kelly, not sticking with Beams, mismanaging my money and being stuck with $226k in the bank at the end. Starting with D. Cameron thinking he'd get games. Trading out premos unnecessarily. Letting my heart rule my head on a couple of players. Not having enough time to join in the banter here more.

Oh, and Newman's 151 on the bench, not getting Greenwood right as emg/on field every ****ing week, getting torched by Ryan's scores after I traded him out, having to field Parsons for what felt like several consecutive years ...trying to work out ****ing Otten and Hampton. Brett Eddy. And I think it all started with Joel Smith. That one was just unlucky but ****.
