DOCKERS
As an outsider looking in, many people criticise the eagles tall forwards. In my opinion your weakness stands at CHB. A position yet settled in your lineup. I think Lynch is an improving FF. He contriutes a goal a game due to brute strength, and his case of butter fingers is sure to improve. Hansen has been a revelation at CHF this year.

Is CHB your worst position? Why do your forwards come under such scrutiny?

I'm looking forward to the next derby. Eagles look destined for top 4 this season (if there form continues), and i wouldn't write off the dockers after an inspiring win last week (Richmond game was an anomoly due to illness - i hope).

Hunter has been very good as a CHB so far.No real weaknesses so far this season proven by our 6-0 record....

we're doing the best with what we have available atm. In an ideal world i'd love to have Gaspar at CHB and Smith at FF but that ain't going to happen at all this year unfortunately (if ever but hey, here's to dreaming).

Lynch is doing ok as a fill in FF until one of our other prefered options is available but at the rate they're going atm, he might be filling in for a while longer.

You're right CHB isn't settled. At the start of the year Lynch would have been marked to play a lot of footy there but due to injuries he's had to move up forward. Staker would have been another marked to play the position but he wasn't in much form when playing there early in the season. Hunter has been very good for us so far but he can't play on all types of CHF's. And Gaspar is where he always is, on the injury list.

CHB is our weakest spot, but because the backline has been working so well together, they've been able to cover for each other and help each other out.

why do our forwards come under more scrutiny? personally i think it's because they can at least name them and therefore able to bag them. Most wouldn't have a clue who half our backline was.

ok I'm new to this board so please excuse my ignorance, but can you tell me what "KPP" stands for?
Now I'm sure there are others that don't know either so I will be the dumbarse to ask! :D

oh, and I have money on the Eagles so heres hoping for a huge win.

Coop.

Key position players =
full back, centre half-back, centre half-forward and full forward. Some people throw ruckman into that equation and call it a spine.

Of those positions i was saying CHB is your weakest, yet its Lynch and to a lesser extent Hansen that cop the criticism. Even though your defence has conceded the least points in the comp i don't believe thats because your defence is the best. I think its because your midfield is the best. Though your defence has functioned really well this year it hasn't had the toughest workload.

I think your first real test will come against a side with two recognised tall forwards. The saints game will be a ripper. You'll probably still win though.

What confuses people is the transition in the game since AFL began. The traditional CHF and FF like Carey and Dunstall are only around in a few clubs. The emphasis is on matchups. I think Essendon probably broke the mould with Hird being more mobile than physical at CHF and Lloyd leading well out of the 50 as a FF.
I can think of Whitnall and Fevola being the old type but that's about all.
And that means that in most cases only one tall physical defender is needed. You know, in Jako's last years he was often beaten by CHF's that were much faster. In his hey day he had slower more physical opponents and murdered them, thus the game changed.

For WCE Glass is pretty good at FB ot CHB if that's where their strong tall is. Hunter has speed, strength(but not so much bulk) and leads opponents upfield. In the case of two physical forwards Lynch would need to come back to defence. In time Staker will have the confidence and hardness to play a tall defender position. Even Gaspar may get over his foot problem.

But the key is match ups, not set positions.

Yeah thats right. Its logical and i'll have to agree. :D

I forgot you can put Lynch back. I was thinking of Guerig and Riewoldt as a tough ask. Though its a tough ask for any defence. Brown and Bradshaw is pretty scary too. To a much lesser extent Ottens and Kingsley(which you guys beat - though Ottens spent a lot of time in the ruck). I'll try and claim Pavlich and McPharlin but its takes more than one game to prove yourself. ;)

Whitnall + Fevola prove a handful. though only once every ten games. Port have an unusal setup. Tredrea plus another two talls is the general lineup.

Kangaroos have Sav and Thompson. In actual fact quite a few teams have a traditional type setup. But even so, its matchup's that matter. I can't disagree with you there.
