Folks with private course memberships - are you able to submit scores from social rounds to go towards your handicap?

Was that a Future Golf comp or from another club? Whats the competition experience like? I'm keen to give it a crack one day but would find it intimidating by myself.

I'm also waiting till I'm a bit more consistent.

Nah, it was a Sunday stableford comp with my new club. Except the handicap they’ve given me is artificial and way too low for my ability. I played pretty awful but not much worse than my normal standard. Just that relative to my “handicap” (13) it looked even more horrific.

Bloke in our group played was easily the best golfer I’ve ever played with and possibly seen live and he has a handicap of 7. Couldn’t believe his striking ability and the distance and accuracy he was getting off the tee.

If only...

Only comp rounds go toward your HC.

Even if signed off by someone with a GA handicap?
At a members course, there's comps all of the time. Men have comps Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I think Tuesday maybe too. If you're a member and go to another club, you can play in their comps too if they have one.
It's a reason to join a club, can I play on their comp days?

Went out with the Mrs and scored 30 points at Glen Waverley.

You know how people always say things click on different days and the mythical day everything clicks together?

My irons were actually very good yesterday, but I hooked every drive and was playing every shot out of the left side trees. Probably could have played a much better round if I put it away after the first 9 but I was determined to get it right ( I didn't).

I'd played some quick greens last week and transitioning to these ones which were slow was hard. Took me half the round to adjust. All round game was solid though, except I kept having to play out of trees.

Hows everyone going with the MiScore app?
Yeah love it. Need some form of phone holder on the buggy though as I don’t like having a phone in my pocket.

This is mostly because there’s not enough room from my gigantic swing bags after going for the green in 2...

(and proceeding to duff it)

My club has a comp on every day and it’s private course with public access (except sat and wed).

I did an away trip with a few mates and they allowed me to submit signed cards.

No problems.
Much better than pencil and scorecard.

Have you, either or any of you, had to use it whilst playing comp at another club? And forthwith pay that additional subscription thing? Although Nash members can use the app without subscribing at other courses apparently.

It's hard to find anything to like about scoring via this app:
  • Have to play with a phone in your pocket
  • Means people can't put the phone away for the day and enjoy other's company
  • The marker hits submit before you've had a chance to agree your score then you can't go back in and see scores/amend
  • If you play at another course you have to pay up to use
  • Crucially it removes the need for anyone to ever go in the pro shop - hate to think how much club coffers are suffering as a result and now much more difficult to control play on the course

Yes paying to play at another course was quite unexpected and flustered me right before a round, fumbling around trying to pay for it on the tee box.

Its utterly stupid isnt it. The tech is there, why should people have to pay extra to use it at another club/course. If that's the case, scorecard and pencil it

Id like to address the points in order

  • Pocket or bag. Either or. Bag myself, but it does mean going into the bag and opening the phone etc each time.
  • Yes. Although degrees of this varies of course.
  • valid point. Sure it happens, but frequency?
  • EYS YES YES YES! Absurd!
  • I know at Nastional and PK you still need to check in. I imagine it being the same elsewhere. That being said, when we came out of lockdown 1 i think the pro shop was "closed" and you go to the tee. it was quite cool.

I don’t mind paying at all, but I would have felt less miffed if I was asked to pay up front, or if the club paid on my behalf and recouped the money through membership. Just a weird human response.

Perhaps your Driver specs and iron specs are miles apart. If you struggle with your irons, but drive well one day and do the exact opposite on others. Good to play some solid golf though.

I heard from a source that there are but a few clubs immune to paying the subscription (extra) for use at another club.

What I'm hearing is, I need to do a fitting and get brand new clubs?
Okay, if you insist mate.
