They do have one good class that they call "limited" - which is basically a way to keep ppl aged 28-45 in the club. Pay about $1500 a year for 7 rounds of golf and you can move back to full membership when you wish.
So you do have a pay for play membership option :D

Anyone you know questioning the value for money at $5000/year? At what price point will people start doing this (acknowledging that golf club price rises have been outrunning CPI increases for years now).

Haven't heard of ppl questioning it(although i silently do!) - with a 7 year waitlist and I'd reckon for a good 50% of members, this is their second club after their membership at RM/KH/Vic/Metro, etc. I'd guess we are a fair way from that kind of price point.

Do you guys have any pay for play membership options to link costs with consumption?

Or does everyone pay the same price and it's "as much as you can eat"?

Sandbelt memberships now headed north of $6500 a year and climbing at a rate higher than inflation.

Will be interesting at what point the rank and file question the value vs cost.

Or maybe the average punter does not care and keeps stumping up whatever the price point.

It's a difficult topic. On one hand you have the idea that raised subs can provide a better club experience and if members are prepared to pay, everybody wins. And then on the other you have problems with clubs becoming(more) unaffordable which skews the membership in a particular way.

Been reading/hearing a lot about Cypress Point right now, and for all their exclusivity, apparently the subs aren't at the exorbitant levels of many US country clubs - and they most certainly could charge more and the members would happily pay it.

I also like the idea of clubs being well used. Last Saturday, I played in the last group in the comp at 12:54. The group ahead of us teed off at 11:57. That's a lot of empty slots...

If the subs start to become unaffordable then you have bigger problems than membership demographics becoming skewed.

You start bleeding members whilst costs continue to go up. And this drives higher subs as less people are funding the cost base. Vicious cycle.

I'm also not sure that increased subs year on year are providing a better and better club experience. Is your club experience any better than it was 10 years ago despite all the increases?

To be honest I pine for the days when mine was a much simpler setup - and much harder because a certain 5 time Open winner liked his course that way.

I get your point, but it’s not a factor down here. More the pity, I worry that many will eventually be priced out. And that’s not good because a cross-section of members makes for a better club. But we have some “differences”.

$3.1 k p/a
Top 25 course
27 holes, full 7 day access.
$8 Schooners

Very happy at my little club.

Which brings me to another matter not golf related
Sorrento Pub Sat Night
$14.75 Schooners
$26 glass of bubbly for the Bride.

After 40 years frequenting that joint, especially when 2 men and a dog were there in the winter months, the Pitts can GAGF!

Subs I dare say are to counter for capital works, improvements etc. or part of it at least. Directly or indirectly.

U right about the cycle.
