Old course @ the National
29 pts. very breezy, slow greens as theyd been sanded. obviously in preparation for the weekend round. the course is picture perfect, an oil painting if you will. simply stunning

My last 4 rounds over 9 I went 58, 58, 53 then shot a 48 today so things are tracking nicely

Working very hard on my driving, the first 58 I shot was playing with irons only, the second 58 was in horrid weather where I lost a lot of balls off the tee, then the 53 I got things working OK off the tee but putted poorly, the 48 got things going off the tee and putted well

But yeah dirivng is the issue with a mean slice I'm trying to shake which is getting better but still nowhere I want it to be. Only lost 1 ball today tho off the first, then managed more look ins at the green off my second rather than hitting over or around trees

Still have a lot of shots to find, found the bunker 3 times today which isnt my style and had 1 three put, so if I can correct those types of things over 18 hopefully I can break 100

what u playing off JuddsABlue ?

without lessons the only way you can drive off the tee with ur slice is to set up and allow for it. assuming ur right handed tee off from right side of tee box, aim left and thusly ball should end up middle of fairway. assume no wind too.

generally if you're slicing the ball, you are coming from"outside-in", instead of "inside-out". that and/or the club face is open at impact. anyway, suggest you seek lessons.

yep am getting lessons

3 months ago I wouldnt even bother with the driver, I couldn hit it at all. I was slicing my irons as well, but it only took 1 lesson to shake that and I'm nailing them straight as an arrow now

The driver though, only had 1 lesson working on it and I'm hitting it with an open club face. We did some things trying to get me to close it up, but its just not tracking as fast as the irons (which was basically instant)

But its getting better and less pronounced, and every now and again I get it better and while there a small fade on it, overall its fairly straight and I'll be playing off the fairway

As the coach said, it'll take time and lots of swings of the club. I'll probably see him again on Tuesday and hopefully we can make another step foward

As for what I'm playing off, currently not handicapped. Only started playing again late last year, have played 6 or so rounds since and spent a fair bit of time in the range. Not sure if I've ever broken 100 in my old golf life but I dont think so.

Played comp today. 1st hole is a tough one and I was navigating it well with a perfectly placed layup ~60m out (part five). Was walking around the creek and saw a social group drive up to my ball hit it and drive off...nothing I could do...basically lost the will to go on there.

On the 3rd my ball was plugged and punched it out giving myself a coating of sand all over my face and back of my neck (sticking to my sunscreen).

It was a tough day gentlemen.

Eh, went out optimistic of breaking 100 and ended up with 112

Shot 57 on the front which didn't help, shot a 48 on it last time but just really blew a few chip shots and didn't get off the tee very well

Back 9 shot a 55 but had two holes that were absolute blow ups

First a right dog leg par 4, I hit my longest drive of the day and end up on the fringe at the end of get fairway on the turn which is fine, put my approach shot on the fringe of some very thick ruff 20m from the green with a bunker between us. Ended up with an 8, after duffing the chip shot leaving it on the fringe of the bunker, then couldn't get it over the lip of the bunker, so out of the sand and on in 5 followed by an ugly 3 putt

Next hole is a par 3, first bounce on the green but roles in to a tough bunker behind the green and from there I end up with a 7

Complete blow ups so keen to get out and make amends and give breaking 100 a go

It'll happen.
an old bloke I played with when first starting out some 20yrs ago said.
treat each hole as a series of par 3s.
in terms of improvement it helped me no end early on

Played the open at Moonah yesterday, shot a 75.

Had a 7 on the first, followed it up with an eagle on the second, genuinely sitting on the lip, one half turn from an albatross.

Shot a 78 at Southern 3 days ago.

Played at Sun City cpuntry club Yanchep today (Geoff Ogilvys new course).

In really tough windy conditions where the ball started moving before i putted on one of the holes and that was up hill.

Hit my new best score of 39. Ive come back playing pretty well after not touching a club at all for 3 weeks, my swings improved it seems. Putting and hitting the New SLDR driver very well. Fluffed some lob wedge chips i just didnt 'hit them' or follow through.

39 would've put you close to the top few comp wise?

That second on the open is pretty short if you are a big hitter and nail your drive.

I cut the corner and hit a gap wedge second to the par 5.

Not yet been time limited and funds are limited and trying to find someone to go country with me who has a handicap already is hard.

Not really sure i need it just yet?

fair enough.

wait, you said you had a score of 39 (i assume stableford points). did you playing partner just give you a handicap for the day?
