All my grandparents are Australian born. Of my great-grandparents, two were Australian, one was born in Germany (but moved here when he was an infant) and the other was English.

That English great-grandfather has the most interesting story in the family. He played soccer for Tottenham Hotspur as a teenager before moving to Australia just before he turned twenty. As soon as he got here, WW1 started, so he signed up. He did his infantry training in Egypt. He took part in the initial landing at Gallipoli, and was one of the very first casualties when he was shot coming out of the water. He went back to Australia and recovered, before joining the army again and taking part in the liberation of Belgium. He was gassed in Flanders Field, and essentially spent the rest of his life dying from this in the small town of Capel, south of Perth.
