I recently went to a group spiritual session where we were to learn about how to deal with stressful situations and meltdowns. The lady running the session is a medium and works for the government from time to time helping them in cases and runs spiritual tours overseas. Anyway for this session she channeled a spirit to advise us and the spirit she channeled was Ghengis Khan. Watching her meditate and to be taken over was amazing, either she is a great actor or it really was Ghengis but her voice was completely different and she just seemed a different person, we were not told until the end who it actually was and there we didn't ask any questions relating to the spirit as the session was simply about dealing with stress. I might add Ghengis is very wise and I got alot from it. Once we finished the channeling we went outside to learn about how placing two exact objects at the entrance to your house helps ward off negative energy. Anyway there were two concrete gargoyles at the driveway and there was a faint yellow light eminating between them. I'm still a partial skeptic and don't know if the light I saw was just my vivid imagination willing it to be there or whether it was, others saw the same colour while some saw nothing. I just have a hard time believing sometimes.

We'll try to move the ghost thread over from GD as soon as the site software update is complete. Some good stuff in there.

Don't know where to start with this.

What i will say, people hallucinate all the time. I know a bloke who has saw aliens, what he saw was a manifestation of what that word believes. He'd been r*ped, abused, manipulated, screwed over by the authorities etc etc and to him people who live in this delusional world that the authorities care and are not corrupt, are aliens when he was really traumatic, he wold see people with alien heads, aliens as we know them from movies.

He was spot on about seeing aliens, because your not one of us if your so cold and callous towards the suffering of another human being.

Ghengis spoke English??
Who knows how or if channeling works, there's always an answer to everyones question. I was impressed by the content of the session I didn't think about what you just posed.

Straight up I don't really believe in ghosts or anything paranormal like that. But this is a story that happened to myself and a few mates back in eithe late 2009 or early 2010.

I joined the navy and completed my initial corse training at HMAS Cerberus on the Mornington Peninsula South East Victoria. There was this place we used to go for BBQ's and drinks and to just get away and bum around. It was a little clearing that led to a beach. It was a pretty decent hike to get there from the road. There was a dirt road you could drive down but we'd normally just walk there from base and just camp on the beach with a fire.

We were all pretty sure the fire was illegal so we used to get a bit paranoid about cops coming and telling us off so as soon as we heard anything we'd automatically freak out thinking it was cops.

Anyone one night we were down there. There was about 6 of us (all guys). Two of my mates went for a walk to this old submarine base that was about a five minute walk away. Anyway there were gone for ages and we could hear talking and whispering in the bush behind us. At first we thought it was cops and kind of hit behind trees and stuff. No one emerged on the beach so then we started thinking maybe it was some locals. We tried to sneak up behind the whispers and voices to see who it was but the more we walked around the more the voice seemed to be surrounding us. We started freaking out thinking we were going to get robbed or something and ran back to the beach. One of our mates was asleep on the beach. we didnt even notice that we left him there. We decided that we should get our other mates from the subs base and bring them back here. I went with another mate and headed to the sub base. After about 300meters into the bush we could see shadows moving and the voices were back. We ran at the shadows but they would just vanish when we got to where they were. Then we'd look around and they would be moving around behind us. Then we could hear the voice above us in the trees. We ran to the sub base and saw our mates. They said that they had heard people in the sub base with them but after walking around they could not find any body. We told them about what happened to us and then ran back to the beach.

When we got back there was no one there. We called out to our mates and one came. He said that he went for a piss and when he came back our mate that was asleep on the ground had vanished when he got back. There were no foot steps or anything around the place apart from the ones that were clearly ours. And it didnt even look like he had gotten up as there were no marks in the sand apart from the spot that he was lying in. We started to really freak out and then went looking for him. We thought he might of walked back to base and then started running up the road trying to catch him off. After getting about half way we decided if he was walking back we would of caught up to him by now so we went back to the beach and there he was, asleep in the exact same spot he was in before as if he had never moved. We were more annoyed than anything else and when we woke him up to ask where the hell he had been he just started screaming.

Eventually he stopped and calmed down and we were like what the hell is wrong? He said he had no idea, apart from the fact that he just didnt feel ok about anything. And he wanted to go back to base. He didnt want to be on the beach. He wouldn't say why though, just that he didn't feel right being there.

The whole way back we could still hear the voice and whispering around us and above us and it really felt like we were being watched.

Horrible night really lol we never went back there again after that night.

Incredible story! Your mate should get hypnosis to try to find out what happened when he went missing.

....on second thoughts, maybe he shouldn't.

I have had multiple encounters with spirits (I believe so anyway) some good and some bad. Started when I was a kid and hasn't had one for a couple of years now. It could very well be a wild imagination as growing up I was very hypo (ADHD) and even to this day I have very clear and wild dreams of which I can control.

I'll talk about two. One good and one bad.

The good one. As a kid I shared a bedroom with two of my younger brothers. Unsure of my age at the time but under 10. Two younger were top and bottom of a bunk and I on the other side of the room on a top bunk. One night I awoke and saw a lady with big curly hair bent over looking at my brother on the bottom bunk across from me. It was very clear. At the time I described to my parents the description of the lady in exact detail. Now here is where it gets confusing. The lady I described was my fathers adoptive mother who I hadn't seen since I was a baby, now she had either died a few weeks before hand of that night. I can't remember exactly but it was one of the two. Either way to me it was a goodbye.

Ok the bad and happened a few years ago. I'll start with the fact that this was one of the most terrifying experiences in my life. The story is short. Basically I was asleep, it was late at night. It was a double bed and I was alone in it. What happened was I was dreaming I couldn't breathe something was choking the life out of me and screaming at me. Thing is it wasn't a dream, I awoke suddenly gasping for air unable to breathe and crying as something was yelling at me '**** you campaigner ****ing ****'. I actually felt like I pushed what ever was doing it away and quickly got the light on. I just remember laying in bed with the light on terrified to fall asleep. I never did but I should have checked my neck in the bathroom mirror. Funnily enough a year or so later in a new place I awoke one night with the feeling of something standing over me, not a person though just an outline, I swung my arm out and said go away and went back to sleep.

Second one sounds kind of like sleep paralysis, although you can't normally move at all while it's happening. I've had the struggling to breathe, seeing and hearing things before in sleep paralysis, it's never anything short of terrifying.

Could be. I kind of remember I couldn't move for second or two. Very scarey though.

I have always been skeptical about these sorts of stories, but there is one story that sticks in my mind I couldn't explain at the time and still cant to this day. Its not as detailed as other stories in this thread but it is no less unusual. It was probably about 5 years ago was lying in bed with my girlfriend having just turned the lights off to go to sleep. After a couple of minutes all was silent, and as clear as day i heard a long deep breath inhale and exhale from the hall outside my room. My heart stopped as i thought someone was in the house but to cut a long story short, this was not a possibility. Just take a second to imagine that noise just outside your room in the middle of the night. The missus startled, asked what the hell was that! We hadn't been together that long at the time so cool as a cucumber i told her it was nothing (i was actually terrified). About 6 months later i told her it freaked me out as much as her and we had a good laugh. Still, there was no explanation. Hasn't happened since and i remain a skeptic, but that one night i didn't sleep at all

Yeah, just a quick story from me, after my grandpa and grandma moved into their house back in 2002. Anyway, the lady who owned the place beforehand died. At the time I was little and didn't think anything of it, but now this thread as come up, there were quite often when I was down there the backdoor flyscreen would either close or make noise or something and then the side door would do the same (ill have to ask my Grandma about it again actually). But yeah, my grandma would always say that the lady who died, is just passing through the house (Grandma casually said hi to her every time as a joke sort of thing). I don't think it was wind that was making the noise with the door. I thought it was cool at the time that maybe she was walking through the house.

I believe aliens exist but I'm really cynical of the stories floating around.

But for some reason, I'm less inclined to believe in the paranormal but somehow, believe a lot of the stories. A lot of grounded people who aren't idiots, aren't attention seekers, aren't uber religious, and aren't off with the fairies have some pretty curious stories.

My mum is one of those people. Relatively soon after her brother died, she was in the kitchen and just saw a huge illumination of his face. I can't remember the story because I was staggered when my parents told me ages afterward, but she knows it was him.

I think it's a concoction of the innocuous and our minds. I'm not saying people are lying. But I had a period during a uni break once where I read a lot about it. The human mind is pretty easy to manipulate, and it's also a hugely complicated set of vessels carrying plenty of information that can be warped. Basically I remember reading an article where it said images, banked up, can clash up against parts of your brain that concoct these sightings.

I'm not saying anyone's lying, I'm not saying you're all victims of a freak set of transmissions in your brain, maybe some of them are genuine. Who knows.

When I was a child at night trying to get to sleep I'd occasionally feel a hand running through my hair and something softly patting my head, it never scared me or startled me I just accepted it. I had a big wardrobe that had mirrored doors to the side of my bed and I never had the courage to open my eyes to see in the reflection if there was someone there or if my hair was actually getting parted. I didn't have a fan in my room either so it had me stunned what was happening. It did eventually stop as I grew older

It's hard for me to believe these stories as I haven't had anything like what you guys are saying happen to me.

That gave me goosebumps. I was about to post a similar story.

1) This story didn't happen to me, but to my Mother and Aunty and has been vouched for on numerous occasions by other Uncles, Aunties and Grandparents, regardless of my cynicism. My Mother and Aunty (My Mother would've been about 10) were told to go to the shops just before dinner to get some groceries (From memory it was bread and milk). It was getting dark and as they approached the shops on the quiet street (At that time of night, foot-traffic was minimal), they saw something in the sky with strange lights with strange light patterns not overly high above them. They sprinted the remainder of the distance to the shop and in the process my Mother's scarf fell off. She was too scared to stop and get it at the time. They purchased the items and the shopowner let them stay a little while as they were quite visibly shaken. When they felt better, they high-tailed it home and saw neither the strange lights, nor the scarf that my Mother dropped. When they arrived home they got told off for being late and losing the scarf and were sent to bed without dinner, despite their claims of what they saw in the sky. The next morning, it was reported in the newspaper of "UFO Sighting" with witnesses from the area where they saw it. I haven't read said article, however I do remember reading a "Non-Fiction" book in primary school about UFO's and it does mention a UFO sighting in Adelaide at about the time of this incident and have seen a UFO Conspiracy video on Youtube that refers to UFO interference/sightings in Adelaide and Woomera at about the same date.

2. This one happened to me, similar to two up. It would've been about 30-45 minutes after falling asleep and woke up to breathing, which seemed strange as I'm a heavy sleeper, it'd be impossible to get into the room I was sleeping in and I was alone. I've slept through earthquakes, thunderstorms right next to my open window, helicopters flying low over my house, but this breathing woke me up. It got louder and louder and closer and closer. I suddenly went ice cold and then it stopped and at the same time I went boiling hot. I turned the light on and walked around the room, but could not see what caused it and I know it wasn't me as I stopped breathing during it. It hasn't happened since.

3. I was on the end of a "missed call" text for a time that hadn't happened yet - it was 11pm and the missed call was from 11.30pm on the same date. At 11.30pm the phone rang and I couldn't hear anything before it hung up.

I fully believe in the paranormal and it is one of my favourite topics, I haven't had many experiences with it as such but I do have this one.

It would have been the late 90's as I would have been 7-10 years old and we were staying at my Mum's best friend's house. Her husband had died in the house suddenly in his 40's sometime in the mid 90's, not 100 percent sure of the year although I have been told it before. Anyway, I was sleeping in the lounge room where he had died, but I remember being completely restless, jumpy and had that horrible uneasy feeling. That feeling that something was there. In the end I went to my mum and she put me to bed with my sister and went to sleep in the other room.

A few years later we were discussing this with my Mum's best friend and Mum said that she had seen the face of the husband not long after she had got into the bed where I was sleeping just looking across the room. My mum's best friend was like, yeah she hears him and sees little signs of him all the time. Things like coffee stains that he had made once kept appearing even though she had got rid of the stains originally and other little things like that.

We actually were talking about it not too long ago and she said that she hasn't heard him for a long time so she believes he has finally moved on or found where he has too be.

For all you people with the 'just falling asleep' experiences, there is a well-known condition called sleep paralysis. Back in the olden days they used to call it Old Hag, because of the belief that a witch was trying to take the sleeper. We now know that it's to do with REM and hypnogogic states - the symptoms can vary greatly but you usually wake up, sometimes paralised and in a deep state of terror. You might feel like someone is on top of you or detect a presence in your room. Some people are awake during the experience, others only recall a distant memory of it happening but relive the feelings of fear.

Here is the base condition, or what used to be called 'Old Hag'. Please note that there are variations of this condition.

I do believe that paranormal experiences are had by people. I also find that having had an interest in this for most of my life that if you're not a complete unquestioning twat about it you end up approaching it with a logical point of view trying to debunk and explain what normal activity could have caused such a thing to happen before labelling it paranormal.

My grandparents had a group experience with a "ghost" on a highway up in the Mallee.

My mother had a very real and close encounter with a "UFO" which was seen by many people on the same evening.

Our family also experienced the concept of the Banshee with tragic consequences.

That's what got me interested in the topics and has me believing somethings happening we can't explain.

I've had this 7-8 times, a couple of times I've actually 'seen' a hooded being in my room, one time i felt my bed shaking, other times I've 'heard' evil things or there's just a sense of evil nearby. Even knowing it's just a hallucination the fear is incredible.
