Most are campaigners who don't give a **** about safety
I mingle with no one outside work
I get along with 95% well, just don't have any interest in going to a pub to drink for social club outings with them.
I've been to 1 xmas show out of 15
Its great if you have kids, want to eat cheap steak and drink all day....none of of which I have or want to do

My best friend and I work for the same company. I've known all the managers here since I was 17 so I'm close with quite a few of them--invited about 7 or so to my wedding. There's 800 staff though so that's a tiny percentage.

It's harder to have friends here now I'm an HOD--the whole company knows who my best friend is but we're not supposed to socialise at work, have lunch together on weekdays etc.

Your not supposed to socialise at work with your best friend? like seriously?

How big are your office sizes in terms of people? We have about 20 or so on our floor/dept (with what I was referring to in the OP).

We probably have around 20 in our staffroom, over 200 in the whole complex.

I'm sort of indifferent, i like 2-3 people that i closely work with and we can joke around and work...

I like mostly everyone in that i understand everyone is different and handles stuff in their own way..

the problem is that it's so busy that often you just don't get much time to really relax with each other and i sense that many co-workers sort of resent or don't really want to be there. I say this because they just don't seem very interested in trying to understand the scope of work outside of what they're told to do and can be quite selective in who they associate with..

I also sense that a lot of people just rely on an adrenalin rush and are pushing through constant physical and mental stress, that everyone is hiding a deep sense of inward pain and regret that they aren't doctors or doing better...

So it's kind of a complex environment to decipher that ultimately comes down to people needing a wage...

Like most. It helps that my current job means if I have the shits with someone I can easily avoid. Though that has hardly happened. Going to be hard to start from scratch.

Previous job I had couldn't stand one of the managers. Yet open plan office means just a constant wall of noise and nit picking. Eventually was looking for a career change before leaving.

I'm the Team Leader at my work. We're a pretty young team (I'm 26) and the oldest member is mid-30's. We all get along very well and often go out for drinks on the weekend. I guess I was part of the team before becoming TL, so that's probably why I'm involved. The last TL wasn't really involved in extracurricular activities (even though she was great and we all liked her). I love being part of a close knit team, it's why I don't dread getting out of bed at 5am every morning. The work we do is really emotionally tough at times, but we all support each other through.

get along with everyone fine and got nothing against them, but wouldn't consider them my friends, i don't hang out with them outside the office at all, very rarely would i even have lunch with them... if i have to talk to them outside office hours via email/messenger/phone, its still work related

i still stay in touch with a couple of old work mates from my first job back in Oz from about 10 years ago that i catch up with either via email/fb/phone call from time to time or in person whenever i go back to Oz for a visit... i'd consider that group of people to have varying degrees of friendship with me... everyone in that group know of each other... thinking back on it, it was a fun company to work for before the company got bought out and folks started leaving, save for 2 of my immediate work mates from my day that are still there... one of them recently told me that the office has now been physically partitioned in half and the company has moved into the half without the windows to save money

most fun i had was a company i worked for in London that was about to shut its doors in a year's time... instant friends with just about everyone who worked there from the first week i started, British office banter was well received, gatherings at the pub were all too common at lunch and after work as well as being invited to weekend birthday parties... one of my work mates was even my room mate for 6 months (but worked in a different department)... the boys even organized a "blokes only" night once a month...

We have 6 permanent people in the office. 1 contractor in 2 days a week and 1 permanent in for 4 hrs a day.

Very small. I want a big office like i used to have

been there, used to work at a place where there was just a President, President's wife/HR, Manager, Sales/Secretary lady and 2 other developers... tiny company

got a ton done at that company, had my own office room, but boy was it quiet

We have a loud mouth POS who ruins my quiet vibes. Other than that, I can do what I want so it is pretty good.

We spend days watching sport in between support tickets

I get along pretty well with my work colleagues.

One former colleague I keep in touch with semi-regularly. I can count on one hand the number of times I've socialised with people outside of work though. I see them enough during the week.

Socialise with most of my workmates.

We go fishing, head to the pub and go to sporting events.

Good lads.
