What should the expectations be for our 18-24 year olds in 2017?

I know 24 is probably a bit old for youth but it allows the likes of Gorringe and Smedts to be included as they are relatively inexperienced.

I'd like to see:
(1) Plowman and Sumner step up after decent pre-seasons.
(2) Jack and Charlie play most of the year and hit the 25-30 goal mark.
(3) Pickett show us some flashes of brilliance.
(4) Marchbank to settle in down back
(5) Dave and Harry to establish themselves as best 22 players.
(6) Weitering become elite (has the tools).

That's a start, try and be a bit more specific. Throw some numbers out there.

From my perspective, Sumner is the big one. For some reason I rate him really highly and hope with a full pre-season he can turn into a Luke Daulhaus type player. He strikes me as a tenacious footballer with a bit of attitude. I think he could be a gun. I look forward to watching him closely this year and hopefully beyond

Take over from our older players, especially those without elite attributes/capability.

They need to be leading the club and setting the standards going forward.

Sumner - Spend more time up the field, to use his speed, run and carry
Marchbank - Spend 25% game time forward
Harry, Jack Charlie - To play 15-18 together
Cuningham - To do, run with roles, early in the season on the likes of a Steven, Gaff etc, then be released to find more of the ball
Pickett - To be eased in/managed
Boekhorst - String some games together and back in his run
Smedts - Leave forward of centre

Overall, if in doubt come selection table, pick one of the kids

Most of them are 19 lol
Why can't they be leaders?

Our current leaders have been at the club through our dark days where we had conditional footballers who may have been responsible for the removal of more than one coach.

To some extent, they have also been accepting of poor performances and culture.

A fresh start under a new coach can be driven by those not conditioned to accepting the results our club has experienced through a very mediocre period in our history.

I hope they find their happiness in life and seek meaningful and satisfying career goals. May they live fiercely and fearlessly, while remaining humbled, challenged and excited by the world around them.

Oh, for Carlton?

Agree completely.

Davey actually has quite a nice mix of inside and outside capabilities. The only major deficiency (a big one) is finding the ball.

Tagging roles and perhaps some time spent through half-back could rectify this.

If he can use his pace and decent kicking skills, he could have a real impact with 18-20 touches.
