How is the boy going? what position is he being earmarked for(i believe he's a forward/ruckman, but due to hawthorns abundance of forwards he was made into something he's not)
Looking like he might even crack a game for the saints one day? or is he destined for the scrapheap?

He was drafted as a mature key back, short term that's how he's viewed, but long term it's not set in stone.

Odds are he'll play at least one game for the Saints

Haha and due to our lack of quality depth down back he is still being made into something he's not. From reports he played a solid match down back. (Albeit against a rookie side)

Don't be surprised to see him elevated soon. Need a replacement for Allen who's on the LTI, and so far Dawson seems the only one strong and seasoned enough for a possible seniors birth.
Fingers crossed he's swung down forward for Sandy because god knows he's not a backman.

I've barely seen the kid play. Short term replacement/backup for Max I reckon.

Because otherwise we need to draft a decent KPB this year and hope he matures quickly, as I think Max has stated this is his last year.

Which is why I wish we took Trengove...

Umm. It is only Feb 8 and only one intraclub has been played and no other games.

Therefore no sensible answer can be given to your questions yet.

Played OK in the intra club match, had minimul impact mind you.

He'll play back if he plays i'd say.

Hopefully he doesn't have to play.

I really hope it was first game nerves (trying too hard impress) or just general rust. He seemed a bit lost at times and gave away silly free kicks. With the full back of the century amongst the coahing staff, I hope he can be moulded into a solid backman.

As the Kangaroos found out painfully.Don't recruit guys the Hawks are done with, unlike Freo where you get steak knives thrown in with a good player!;)

Not sure what Thompson or Hay cost the Roos, but a rookie pick isn't much. :p Plus we got Gaertner and McGarry later on, so Im not too fussed haaha.

If Maxxy goes down, I think Dawson would be an adequate replacement. That's the only reason we drafted him I reckon.

He was very poor and appeared to be out of his depth in what was frankly described by people around us in the "crowd"as the worst match they had ever seen.Colm Begley was the same and is very timid in his "attack'' on the ball.
Ray's stats. may have looked ok but imo a soft outside receiver at best.
Good drafting recruiters?

No offense to him, but I didn't like him. Maybe it was just him playing in the backline, but he seemed to always get in the way more than even Koschitzke. A couple times they're could of been an easy Saints mark, and he would come in and spoil. Then when the opposition goes for a mark, he would miss a spoil.

Gave away some stupid free kicks, and a couple the umpire didn't call. He should consider himself lucky. It seems to me he doesn't quite understand the contact rules of the sport completely.

Look, it was the first hit-out for the boy, so a lot can happen throughout the season... but yikes, he was bad. He wasn't playing on Rocca, or Brown, or anybody of note, but he was just crapped all over. That clumsy spoil that resulted in a free-kick and goal - ugly football.

Hey, he might turn into a brilliant player, Silvagni would have had a hand in picking him, and might be able to see a potential that we can't.

wasn't impressed by that game. Slow at making decisions, and seemed to spoil our guys more.

Really hope he can improve, (he seemed to be trying very hard) with a bit more time with 2nds but ... won't be expecting to see him too many times this year.

As far as I'm aware we get to elevate 2 rookies at the start of the season proper because of the long term injuries to Allen & Dempster. From what I saw of Dawson the other night I dont think he will get called up to the seniors, very poor decision making from him.

Hopefully we get to see some other rookies play in the NAB Challenge and push for the senior spots - Gaertner, Simpkin, Haretuku etc..

Gaertner can't kic kand Simpkin and Haretuku aren't anywhere near it.

I don't think we'll elevate any rookies, costs us money to do so.

After seeing him at the intra club a part of me wants to see Choo Choo given a shot. I know his body's nowhere near AFL ready, but it's an exciting thought

A lot of Hawks fans would be happy if he turned out to be something but I have the feeling that his experience at the Saints will echo that of his time at the Hawks.

The coaches will see something in him that the supporters never get to see.
