GOLD Coast ruckman Zac Smith will skip the Suns' trip to Tasmania to play Hawthorn on Saturday.

Gold Coast coach Guy McKenna said this morning Smith would miss the game with general soreness.

The 21-year-old has shouldered most of the ruck load for the new team this season and been one of its best players.

The news is a blow to the Suns' chances on Saturday, with the Hawks fielding an injury-depleted team especially in the ruck.

It is also bad news for more than 140,000 SuperCoaches who have Smith in their team.

Worthy of it's own thread.
I'm sure I'm one of many with him covering Sandilands who sit's on the bench.
What to do!?

Wow this week is just getting worse and worse.
If I wasn't going for overall points id just write this league game off.

Yeah was bound to be given the general soreness treatment considering his workload, but would have preferred if the GC byes were spread out a little more so he wouldn't miss a game. Have Max Bailey to come on, hoping he is named this week.

Ahhh shut up!

Haha.

Worth trading down to a rookie/someone cheap who will play, or just cop a donut?

A panic trade for a guy who's being rested, when there's no real standout alternatives would be a bad idea. Even if you're top 10 overall, I think it would be best to just suck it up. If this week will teach us anything, it's that there's required trades and then there's panic trades.

I'm actually hoping for lots of panic trades this week to help improve my overall ranking and my chances of league triumph.

Hoping Bailey gets named. And if he does he should do alright against GC without Smith

I need a 'Reverse Trade' button.

Why oh why did I decide a few weeks ago to cash Petrie out for a 91.7rookie and rely on Smith to provide cover for the year.....:o

I'm leaning towards agreeing with you mate, but what if you pick someone like Vardy, who scores 60-80 until Sandi comes back, and makes you a bit of coin in the process.

I definately agree about this being one of those weeks that seperates the good fantasy coaches from the best.

Yeah, I suppose that trade has a bit of merit, but again, Smith is only going to miss one week. Unless you are absolutely desperate for Vardy's 60-80 points (I'm assuming you have Cox/Sandilands/someone who's not playing as your other three rucks), I think you need to sit tight. Vardy's already up over 200k and Smith still has some maturing to do (hopefully peaking at about 425k). While it makes some money for you in the short term, the ability to trade him for a 110ker after Sandilands comes back will make you over 100k more than your proposed Smith -> Vardy. That 100k will be like gold for your final upgrades.

Also, if you don't have two other more pressing trades to make this week, I reckon you're going alright...

So that makes it, Swan, Pendles, Montagna, Selwood, Shaw, Adcock (possibly) and now Smith. At least i've got Petrie, will probably trade Selwood.

Picking that spud Robert Campbell as my fourth ruck has come back to bite me, as if it hadn't already.

eeerrrgh.
First Selwood, then Adcock, now Smith. And I don't have nay cover for smith or adcock this week... kill me. I was in season best form with 2200 + the last 2 weeks

Another one here who has Smith. This will give me Griffin and Vickery as my starting rucks.

Kinda glad I traded out Sandilands when he got injured and picked up Griffin (who I guess I will keep until big Sandi comes back), he's scored 100+ every week and made a bit of cash.

Same!

I have Campbell and Sandi currently sitting on my bench with Petrie and Zac Smith doing the ruck duties.

With Smith going out this week, I'm considering either trading in Cox for Sandilands for the time being or trading Campbell for JTippett and his DPP status, allowing me to bring Hale into my ruck from my FWD bench.

EDIT: Just read that Sandi might be back as soon as next week.
