Much fairer than a Geelong.

Not sure why you are so invested. Your team is playing and you're here in a thread that your club has no skin in.
the 30 seconds it takes to drop a quick reply really takes away from my viewing experience

I said back in December, Port might be better of just taking the compo pick.

Obviously that is redundant if the AFL change the rules, but if they don't....

Port aren't going to get their "fair". He's not contracted.
Although this is true, the more relevant part is is that the dogs don’t have the assets to make this a ‘fair’ trade.

As with most things the dogs do at the trade table, the dogs will do all they can be realistically expected to do and Port will take it.

F, FF, FFF and whatever change the dogs can muster within reason.

There is really not much more to this thread.

Brilliant player but certainly not worth blowing up your salary cap over.
Rarely hits the scoreboard and has displayed he goes quiet in big matches on a regular basis.

Would fit in perfectly at the Dogs where you have Bontempelli delivering when the chips are down.
At a club like Hawthorn or Geelong . . . too much on his already banged up body.

He might be one inside mid too many for the dogs tbh.

Against the Crows, Kennedy had 19 CBAs, and Libba had 17.

Libba likely retires soon, as does Treloar, and Kennedy is quite handy up forward so between those guys we’ve got room for a recruit. I still don’t see Butters as the biggest need for the Dogs (not even top 3 in terms of positions needing upgrades) but when a player that good shows interest, you make it happen.

Dogs are flush with forwards but if Mitch Georgiades wanted in, you’d make that happen too. Can never have enough elite talent..

Liberatore & Treloar will retire.
Baker & Kennedy will move aside given Butters is a more supremely talented footballer.

I think a core midfield group of Butters, Bontempelli, Richards, Freijah, Sanders is the best in the competition. Not to mention they have a ruckman averaging 18 disposals as well.

English, Butters, Bont and Richards would be one of the most talented centre square lineups of the last decade if not 21st century

It's heavily speculated by Bulldog inside sources to be Libba's last year. Not Confirmed, But it's the vibe of his Interviews, His age and his previously stated reluctance to go past his Dad in Games played.

Without a Libba archetype going forward. We're missing the inside workhorse that made Bevo's style enviable. Richards is the sleek disposer placed on the outer layer. Bont has never been that Eat grass type, more often being the first to receive the clearance and from there provide some magic. Should Butters arrive at Whitten Oval, I can almost guarantee that Libba's role will be his natural mantle to take.

Even if we finish 17th, a pick 1 bid on Cochrane uses up pick 2&3 leaving us with just pick 7 or 8. And no points in future drafts were we need to gather points for drafting Louis Salopek, Zemes Pilot (who will both likely attract early bids from Tasmania) and possibly Tevita Rodan.

You guys aren't finishing 2nd last. It's Essendon, West Coast (will fade late in the season), Richmond, Carlton/North/Melbourne/Port Power so probably will have pick 7. Think you will force a trade and get 2026 (late), 2027 (will be early 2nd rounder after the draft concession) and 2028 1st rounders (late) from the Bulldogs instead of FA pick 8 then need to match the Cochrane bid with pick 7 and late 1st rounder. Pilot will be harder to match in 2027 if he does go top 4 with the draft concessions and Tasmania needing to trade those picks.

Overall I take your point, but without the Pick 3 to use in the matching you would have to use your 2R as well (say pick 22) and then you’d get pick 32 back. So for completeness it’s more like pick 7/8 + pick 22 instead of 32. Maybe the better counterfactual is actually the Dogs/Cats R1 as the second pick used. There’s also obviously the ability to trade pick 3 into points in 2027.

Could there actually be a very weird scenario where if you had pick 2 and 3 and a bid didn’t come at pick 1 then you wouldn’t have the points to match at a bid at pick 4?
