Toast Minus 620 and counting

Ok folks, time for this year’s countdown.

Though it is not as auspicious as the result last year, here, I would like to get another statistic into the positive.

As us Hawthorn tragics know, our history from 1925 – 1968 is littered with plenty of defeats & few victories. The for & against total blew out to -14 071 by round 8 1968.

While our finals record is excellent (47 wins, 28 losses. 1044 goals 1035 behinds, total 7299 For; 955 goals 916 behinds, total 6646 Against) our home & away record, due to our struggles up until the late 60s, suffers by comparison.

Our Home & Away stats as of now are:
22 907 goals 22 441 behinds 159 883 points total For
22 863 goals 23 325 behinds 160 503 points total Against

Last season we outscored the opposition in Home & Away matches by 664 points. Another year like that & we are in the positive.

Let’s make season 2014 like the great season of 1989. And if we can have a bit of fun along the way with stuff like this, all the better.

Go Hawks.

By my reckoning Hawthorn has topped 100 points in a game 642 times, to our opposition's 655. We've never been in front (at the start of 80s we were about 150 behind). Last year we did it 14 times more than our opposition. Repeat that and we're in front.

If we beat Brisbane by 84 points or more we are ahead of them (head to head) on both games won & percentage.

Just saying.
Ah, you must be counting the Lions as separate from the Bears. Must say I never bothered, and have us well ahead of them already!

The stats.rleague.com website does.

Stats in the Footy Record don't, as they include Brisbane as just one entity.

I'll take a +84 win against Brisbane though.

We are also on an 8 game winning streak. Last year Geelong stopped us from breaking our record of 13 straight which we ended up only equalling.

In order to extend the current 8 game winning streak out to that record we are going to have to overcome Essendon, Freo, Gold Coast, Geelong, Richmond and Stkilda.

Should be interesting.

Love these threads moginie. Would talk about the good old days, but that with our club would be misleading, unless of course we're referring to the 70's & 80's. I remember the old football record, when it was 3d (price that is not dimension) or for the younger ones threepence. They always had the win/loss ratio, which I believe were put there just to break the hearts of us Hawk supporters. Saw most of those losses, which makes the current period so much more enjoyable.

We have now won more games than we've lost against the Brisbane Lions... would have to be the first time this century that's been the case!
Well, at the turn of the century we were 5-2 up.;)

Every time that we have won 9 games in a row we have won the premiership in that year - including occasions when the streak has extended over 2 seasons (88-89 being the example). So by my reckoning if we beat Essendon next week we are a lock for this years flag.

Another interesting stat:
If we win next week, we go 2-0 and have 8 premiership points.

True story :p
And that will be 4 more than we had at the same stage last year.

Grant Birchall and Liam Shiels' last 17 games have been wins. They join Tony Hall, John Kennedy Jnr, Chris Langford and Kel Moore in 2nd place all time for Hawthorn, behind Dermott Brereton who played 24 games in a row without a loss.

Isaac Smith is currently undefeated in 11 games at York Park. As it stands this is the best undefeated total in the books for Hawthorn at any ground. Next best is 9, also current runs, shared by Burgoyne and Breust who are undefeated in 9 games at Docklands. These guys may spoils their runs with losses in the future but Max Bailey retired with 8-0 locked in at York Park.

Ok -- following on from points for v points against are wins v losses.

First post refers to prior to the last thirty years , and pre our last 7 Premierships :)

So in the last 30 years we have significantly improved the overall win loss record.

So against the original 12 clubs ... we have a superior win loss record over them all except one.

Carlton +11
Collingwood +18
Essendon 0
Fitzroy +14
Footscray +9
Geelong +7
Melbourne +21
North Melbourne +7
Richmond +12
Sydney +15
St. Kilda +14

... if we win Friday night we have them all.

GO HAWKS !!
