New Senate Poll Ordered For WA

They are anti inflationary as they kill jobs and industry.

Thus putting downward pressure on wages

Yet inflationary in the cost of energy which is passed on to the consumer

I look forward to seeing full analysis

And then compensated, for those that need it (and then some more).

I laughed when I saw the Pirate party, wtf is that
Not what you think.

Their platform was originally IP law reform and net neutrality, however it does encompass a wider range of issues.

The name of the party is a cheeky exercise in irony, which is lost on much of the public, just like their platform, though it probably does get them the odd protest vote.

They aren't single issue, so much as representing a narrow band of issues. Their equivalents are well known in Europe, especially northern Europe, though their position is far too well considered or vital, to be politically successful.

Ludlum is probably the only current politician who has really tackled the issues they raise head on. Good for Australia that he has been re-elected to the senate.

Hmm, they'd get more votes pretending they're actual pirates.

That's what I mean. Many Australian voters are complete mongs.

Issues like the growing security state, or IP law reform, which has an impact on everything from the affordability of medicine, constraints placed on the agricultural sector, draconian anti "piracy" legislation, or the choking effect strict IP regimes have on Australian science and innovation, probably fly over most voters heads.

Now, if they could only get face time coining catchy turns of phrase like stop the boats, Juliar, mincing poodle, or illegitimate government, they might get a little more traction. Heck, even the herp derp dem freedoms platform of the right wing micro parties, seems to be swaying voters these days. Though not many.

Substantial rejection of the major parties at play here. Abbott is just more shit different face and nobody at all is the least bit surprised
Bishop's jibe about a protest vote would have been the agreed upon spin, to take the sting out of such a result.

The Libs have refused to be conciliatory re Palmer, which could be mean either of two things, first they think he will be an obstructionist force, or they think he will be easily bought later.

I wonder, if they can't find a senate majority from dealing with Palmer/the independents, then the media msg and media battles pre and post budget are going to be heated. This Hockey crapola about a budget emergency is getting tedious and aggressive saturation with the hordes staying on msg will become even more so. Voters are experiencing election mode fatigue, which doesn't help the Libs as it seems to be their media management/pr strategy.

Whatever the case, despite a pointed media offensive, they may not have the backing to push through a few key ticket items, let alone more contraversial legislation. If they push too hard, the public will respond poorly, however they could never carry through with the threat of a double dissolution because it would be electoral suicide.

I disagree - the Libs would win a 2015/2015 Double Dissolution election IMO.
Abbott won't do it though.

Just ran the current numbers through the ABC calculator.

3 LP
1 ALP
1 Green
1 PUP

It was VERY tight at the end though! (HEMP excluded pushed PUP over with enough overflow prefs to get the Libs up) so with so many votes still to count, it's definitely too close to call the last 2 (PUP & LP).

They'd win the House (which they already have) and would end with a similar Senate to what they have now (at best, probably more minors and micros sneaking in).

They (LP & ALP) will change the election laws before they call any new election to reduce the chances of minors getting up. They don't like the idea that protest votes might actually get anywhere...It makes them look bad and gives people hope for a more diverse democracy.

So Western Australians clearly voted for the mining and carbon tax to be abolished. So says the prime minister.

So it looks like WA will have 4 Liberal-supporter seats effectively.

He's been trotting that out all morning...
Massive swing to greens who are the loudest proponents for the carbon and mining tax. Massive swing to Palmer who campaigned heavily against the government.
