My personal opinion if he is talking everything up until Endgame than its a hot take and most of it is considered good to very good by the majority of people. It’s only post end game that it has become popular to hate on marvel generally speaking.
Didn’t like all the movies the spin-off standalone …didn’t mind Infinity War but Endgame to me was such a cop out. Oh interesting they all die in IW ..kind of wow. Oh look they all come back to life …oh dear

So I just came across the above clip and it brings me back to my thoughts about the last oscars. I think Everything Always is going to age poorly as an oscar winner and Banshees was a far superior film. Barry Keoghan should have won best supporting just on this scene alone over Ke Huy Quan. I didnt agree with the choice at the time and even moreso now do I think Banshees and McDonagh were robbed. I even think Colin Farrell was very stiff not to win as he was brilliant here even if I think Fraser was deserving too. There can only be one as they say.

Chiming in with David Zaslav's hot take.

Can't say I ever thought "The problem with movies today is that there aren't enough superhero movies" but then I'm not the CEO of Warner Bros Discovery.

I don't think Everything Everywhere All At Once was a bad Best Picture winner, certainly compared to others. And in a current period where mid-budget original cinema is dead, its success commercially and critically is something I'm happy to see, and I hope it encourages more of that from the studios. But yes, Keoghan would definitely have been my choice for Best Supporting Actor and Condon for Supporting Actress, Paul Mescal in Aftersun for Best Actor, Tar for Actress, Director and Picture.

I have some optimism that this year is shaping to be a good one. Oppenheimer, Barbie and Past Lives all slapped. From all accounts, Killers of the Flower Moon, Poor Things, The Zone of Interest, Anatomy of a Fall and All of Us Strangers do the same.

This is probably a hot take in mainstream circles, but not sizzling. I liked Everything Everywhere but right from the outset believed Banshees was the superior movie, including the acting. Everything ticked a lot of boxes for Oscar voters that are interested in backslapping as much as rewarding the best film.

I love both Banshees and EEAAO, my two favourite movies from 2022

I have no issues with EEAAO getting the accolades it did as it was my top film, slightly ahead of Banshees but so very different from each other

I was pretty happy seeing the risk rewarded but I wouldn't have been upset with Banshees getting more awards either, though it would be a safer bet from the awards perspective, but probably a less popular one

My Bond hot take is For Your Eyes Only is the 2nd best Bond movie after Casino Royale.

Good call on French cinema. I've seen maybe 20 French films and enjoyed most of them. The Intouchables, Colours Trilogy, Portrait of a Lady On Fire, Blue is the Warmest Colour, Amelie, I Lost My Body, Spanish Apartment and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly being the highlights.
The Bureau is a top 3 TV show and Call My Agent! would be a top 10 comedy as well.
What 1960's French films would you recommend since I haven't seen any from that era?

Fair to say I should see more international films before making a judgement though. I actively try to watch non-US and US films in a 50/50 split. But doing that probably indicates the US have won cultural supremacy especially as it's a struggle sometimes to keep the balance. The financial argument would be a landslide to the US as well.
I'm not even much of a film buff, but some French films are brilliant!
My favourite film of all time is Jacques Tati's Mon Oncle, a gorgeous comedy released in 1958, so it's just outside the '60s but close. :). The sequel, Playtime, was released in 1967 and it's great, but Mon Oncle takes the prize as far as I'm concerned. :)

Eric Rohmer is another great film director who was active from the 1960s well into the 21st century, and he never really made a weak film. You can give any of his a go, and there's a fair chance that you'll enjoy what you see.

If you're looking for some more conventional films made with the flair and the quality associated with French cinema, I would go for La Pacte des Loups (the English version is entitled The Brotherhood of the Wolf), Ne Le Dis A Personne (Tell No-One), and Cache (Hidden). All great fun, fascinating, visually beautiful. :)

Having watched the new Indy the other night my hot take is that Kingdom of the Crystal Skull isnt bad.

Its not good and its not a shade on the original trilogy but its fun and campy (much like the original trilogy) it just has a pretty poor third act.
that is a white hot take
he survived a nuclear test by climbing into a fridge and getting blown out of the site by the explosion
then there is the fencing on the bonnets of two cars in the jungle where there are no roads

Doesnt he ride a submarine trans continental in one of the originals?

Like if plot armour for Indy is your breaking point you probably should have jumped off earlier.

To be clear about this (and i know its a hot take) im not saying Kingdom is "good" im saying i dont think its as bad as most people make out and actually falls in line with the canon and tone pretty well. Just has some shitty CGI and a bad third act.

I watched the original trilogy recently. The worst one was the survival of the plane crash at the beginning of Temple. Ok so they landed ok on the inflatable which was insane but then it just got worse from there. It would have been more beleivable if they used the inflatable as a parachute lol.

I was also in primary school when I saw Raiders so you know didn't bother me and I didn't even know it was an issue because I have no idea when I last watched any of the original movies

loved them as a kid where you didn't really care about how realistic stuff was

its the hot takes thread, you had a hot take, you're meant to enjoy the moment

I'm not going to bother with the new one though, really don't give a shit

yeah I don't think it does fit in, he gets turned into a marvel superhero instead of someone who bleeds and gets hurt

you don't have to agree but I'm going to call you thinking its ok a hot take because this is the thread to do that

Spielberg for all his strengths is pretty much the absolute shittest of shit when it comes to I have an idea for a set piece

but still on a scale of improbable to impossible

Temple of Doom plane crash - highly improbable

Crystal Skull surviving the nuclear explosion in a fridge - impossible

like the first part of the scene was pretty fun but come on
