As a part time NRL follower, I was watching the Offsiders on the weekend and Richard Hinds suggested that Thurston has gone past Johns as the best no.7 to play the game.

From posters out there who would be better placed to answer this than me, I would like to know how the two are rated against each other will all achievements in their careers and who ultimately will be regarded as the greatest.

For mine, Thurston only needs a Premiership to be the best #7.
Thurston does have a premiership in 2004 with the Bulldogs but yeah I wouldn't place much value on it with him playing a small role on the bench.

Johns has won two grand finals being instrumental in both, in 1997 we produced the play to Darren Albert that won the game, and in 2001 in the 1st half producing the best individual performance I have ever seen to win the game and Clive Churchill medal. For that reason I place Johns above Thurston, as no-one was able to tear a game to shreds quite like Joey was.
